JS Editors’ March Shopping Haul: Everything We’re Buying This Month

March means the start of spring cleaning and de-cluttering (hello, Marie Kondo), and with all the extra space that creates, we can't resist picking up a few new pieces. Here, see everything our editors are buying (or just bought and are loving) this month, from home goods to workout gear to fashion and beauty finds.

Lindsey Olander, Editor

“Lately, I’ve been thinking of ways to try to spruce up my home. Spring does that to me. I’ve been good about saving since the holidays, too, so it might be time to finally pull the trigger on some pieces I’ve had my eye on for a while…including this gorgeous rosewood bar cabinet, sturdy (cat-proof!) planter, and hand-poured eucalyptus candle—one of my favorite scents.”

Kerry Sainato, Product Manager

“I’m traveling to Costa Rica at the end of March (#LikeAJetsetter!), which means I’m buying lots to gear up for an active trip to the tropics. First, I need a pair of sunnies, and I’ve been OBSESSED with Busy Phillips’ heart-shaped shades that often make an appearance on her Insta. After a bit of sleuthing, I think she got hers at Saks—these Saint Laurent lovelies—but I’m no celeb. I can’t rationalize the price of a trip and a luxury accessory in one month. Fortunately, I found a similar pair for less at ModCloth that I’m totally adding to my beach bag.

I’m also shopping for the perfect pair of hiking boots. I found these red gems from Oboz that will look so cute as I’m trudging through the rain forest in search of sloths and spider monkeys.

Finally, this plus-size Jetsetter is suiting up in a sparkly, star-print bikini from Torrid. The print is dreamy and the cut looks easy-to-wear and flattering—perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and waterfall hunting. Pura vida, here I come.”

Jackie Homan, Editorial Assistant

“I’m eager to add some more spring beauty products to my shelf, and I’m starting with a pretty pink blush from Vapour Organic Beauty. The Aura product is multi-use, so you can also apply it to your lids and lips. As for my closet, I just got these polka dot workout leggings from Terez, and I’ve been absolutely living in them. They’re extremely comfortable, and the fun print makes me way more excited to hit the gym (or more likely, my favorite dance cardio class at 305 Fitness). I also desperately need new glasses this month, and I love the gold metal style of these from Warby Parker.”

Gretchen Dorosz, Senior Photo Editor

“I love these little books from Taschen’s Basic Art Series. Each contains a detailed artist bio, a summary of their historical importance, and around 100 illustrations of their works with explanatory captions. It’s the perfect coffee table book. I just purchased the Matisse, but with so many options (at only $15 apiece!), I’m sure I’ll be back for more.

And now for some fashion picks…I’ve had my eye on Lauren Manoogian’s sweaters for ages. Yes, they’re an investment, but the quality of these plush, hand-loomed pieces is above and beyond. I can’t wait to wear this cozy cardigan on my trip to Japan this month!

When I saw these delicate hoop earrings with drop pearls for $13, I couldn’t resist. I love how simple and elegant they are. I’d looked at some other beautiful but more expensive options, but for trendier pieces that I’m not sure I’ll still love a year later, I like to save rather than splurge.

And finally—this is annoying, but my husband and I just bought matching Birkenstock clogs. I think they’re cute and versatile, and so easy to throw on for weekend errands in the neighborhood.”

Clara Sedlak, Executive Editor

“In March, I’m all about nurturing my body. I’m trying to transition to organic cosmetics and just discovered Tata Harper Repairative Moisturizer. It’s incredibly hydrating and formulated with hyaluronic acid to help erase fine lines. I’m also trying out the Ritual multivitamin you’ve been seeing everywhere, and I got myself some new workout pants, too. This is the month I’m going to get my ass back to the gym.”

Tyler Schoeber, Photo Intern

“I’m not going to lie, I’ve been quite the plastic water bottle hoarder for the majority of my life. But after bingeing “Blue Planet” on Netflix, I’ve become more conscious of my plastic use and bought a reusable water bottle to reduce my carbon footprint. The que bottle is ideal because of its lightweight, collapsible design.

Speaking of sips…I don’t know about you, but my coffee goes from temperatures only felt in the depths of hell to Antarctica-level cold in, like, three minutes and I’m OVER it. The techy Ember mug seems to be the answer to my prayers, staying at my desired coffee temp the whole time.

And last but not least, I’m all for witty new games to enhance a night in (or the pregame before a night out), and this party card set seems like exactly what I’ve been looking for.”

Saman Westberg, Style Correspondent

“I love big indoor plants and trees. They give a home a great vibe, and somehow I’ve managed to keep them thriving over the years (even in a New York City apartment). I’m excited to add a Bird of Paradise to my little troupe—the leaves are large and beautiful with a tropical feel.

Moving on to the kitchen…I’m not afraid to throw in a little garlic when I cook. But it’s tedious to chop, and every time I wind up with its not-so-delightful aroma on my hands, I swear it’s the last time. This garlic press is my new must-have gadget.

As for my closet, jean jackets are essential, and I’ve been missing a black one. This oversized version from Madewell is going to get a lot of wear.”

Elizabeth Mullen, Marketing Associate

“I own Cole Haan’s slip-on sneakers in black and they are so comfortable for my walk to work, so I’m also snagging them in this spring-y peach blush color to wear with dresses as the weather gets warmer.

I’m also restocking on a non-toxic perfume that I discovered at a natural beauty store in Boston. It’s subtle and airy, with notes of bergamot, fig, and sandalwood.

My big splurge of the month was this Samsung Frame TV. I really wanted a TV above the mantle in my new apartment, but I love the artsy-boho look of a gallery wall. This TV lets me have both, and I’m impressed with the quality of photography that you can display on your default screen.”

David Hattan, Photo Editor

“This month I’m ready to pack up my winter clothes and start prepping for spring. I’m going to pick up this All-Weather Jacket from Everlane, which is a lot lighter than my parka and will protect against the rainy weather. Every year I also buy a new white sneaker for spring/summer, and this year I’m grabbing a pair of New Balances for J.Crew that can be dressed up for a wedding I’m attending soon.

My skin always freaks out with the change of season, so I’ll have to switch up my skincare routine this month. Aesop’s Chamomile Anti-Blemish Masque will keep me blemish- and oil-free.”

Jamie Ditaranto, Editor of Video and Content

“This month, I’m surprising a friend by creating a small book using the photos of an awesome trip we took together last year. It was super easy to use Artifact Uprising’s website and I think it’s going to be a great gift.

I took advantage of my early tax refund and splurged to update my camera. Not only is the Sony A7 III smaller and easier to travel with, it’s also way more powerful and has amazing focus-peaking technology that’s really going to help me nail my shots.

Lastly, I’m still buzzing about my visit to a bee hotel in Vancouver last year, and I love how playful these wooden earrings from ModCloth are while staying true to the geometric jewelry trend that’s going on right now.”
