Travel Style with Sofia Sanchez de Betak
Travel and style influencer Sofia “Chufy” Sanchez de Betak lives a life most of us can only dream of. Jetting around the world consulting for luxury travel and fashion brands, the Buenos Aires-born, New-York based creative has been everywhere from the savannahs of Kenya to the glacial bays of Iceland and peaks of Patagonia, partnering with brands including Roger Vivier and The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts. For years, we’ve been following de Betak’s every move on Instagram, where she gives her 100k+ followers a glimpse into her enviable, high-flying lifestyle. Now, thanks to the release of Travels with Chufy, published by Assouline, fans who aren't so digitally inclined can see her most wanderlust-inspiring adventures in a beautiful coffee table book.
We caught up with de Betak in between book signings at Bergdorf’s to learn more about her inimitable travel style—plus, where she’s jetting off to this summer.
You travel so often. What’s your schedule like when you’re at home, in New York?
“I wake up early, eat breakfast, then settle in for a workout with my Pilates instructor @brittanylevy. Then I head to the office, where I’m up to my elbows all day in emails, samples, and fabrics, and afterwards, I’ll grab dinner with friends or my man. Dinners at home are my ultimate indulgence when I’m in the city."
What about when you’re away?
“When I’m traveling (approximately two weeks a month), my schedule is a total mess. For example, the collaboration I did with Roger Vivier took me around the world for photoshoots, interviews, events, and studio work. At the same time, I was having to keep up with my emails and coordinate with my team, so there was really no time for workouts or downtime. It’s hard to travel so often, but I wouldn’t have it any other way."
What do you love the most about being on the road?
“I love exploring different worlds and exposing myself to new ideas. I always come back to New York having learned something new."
Of all the places you’ve been, which destinations have stuck out most to you and why?
“Istanbul, Argentina, and Africa— anywhere in Africa. Anyone who travels there falls in love with it because it’s one of the most untouched continents in the world and offers such incredible sights and adventures. Another favorite place is London. It has the best street style.”
What about hotels? Do you have a favorite?
“Hazz Istanbul is the most remarkable hotel I’ve ever been to. It’s a private house, so it feels homey and luxurious at the same time.”
What are some essentials you never travel without?
“Sandals from Valentino and Roger Vivier, sneakers from Adidas or Nike, and sunscreen from Clinique and SkinCeuticals. I also never leave home without my camera and sunglasses."

“I am split between Peru and the Trans-Siberian train. Stay tuned!”
