Overview

Smack on Dublin’s posh Grafton Street, a classic grand hotel that recently emerged from a multimillion-euro refurbishment
The Lowdown
The hotel’s designers set out to make it a “living icon” that would acknowledge its historic pedigree but also embrace all the currents of contemporary hotel design. Thus the rooms have a dun-shaded color palette that rests the eyes and many luxuriant textures that calm the nerves, as well as state-of-the-art entertainment and music systems. They all feature Irish woven wool carpets, Lissadell linens on the beds, and Blanc d’Ivoire throws. Wi-Fi is free, along with the range of Aromatherapy Associates products in the bathrooms. The hotel’s four dining venues range from the funky Café Novo to the prestigious modern-Irish grill that is Wilde.
In the Area
The Westbury has an enviable location midway between Trinity College and St Stephens Green, and is an easy stroll from the city’s Cultural Quarter, home to museums like the Dublin Writers Museum, which offers peeks into the lives of Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett among others, and the National Gallery of Ireland, home to large collections of Irish and European art. Also nearby is Grafton Street, famous for its high-end shops and entertaining buskers (Glen Hansard of Once was at one time among them). And Dublin’s famous Temple Bar, an institution since 1840, is within easy stumbling distance home.
