Like its sister property in Clerkenwell, this 24-room townhouse and former home of poet Edward Lear, on a gritty street in Marylebone, has been transformed into the maximalist dream of a fictional resident—in this case, worldly magpie Uncle Seymour. Designer Russell Sage has blanketed every surface with wallpaper, stenciling, hanging maps, and other antique souvenirs (vases, grandfather clocks, bowler hats, Persian rugs) one might have amassed while on a Grand Tour. The place to be is the Parlour, where guests cozy up by the fireplace for daytime light reading before nightfall, when outsiders trickle in for a taste of creative cocktails from a menu designed by famed mixologist Tony Conigliaro. more...
