The most design forward of biz-travel favorite Magnolia hotels, this St. Louis spot occupies the former Mayfair Hotel, where Cary Grant wooed a guest by leaving a trail of chocolates from the hotel bar to his pillow. The incident was said to have inspired the now universal hotel trend of chocolates on the pillow at turndown. Beyond the historic facade, the grand lobby makes a good first impression with double-height ceilings, enormous chandeliers and white colonnades, but guest rooms, by contrast, have a more homey vibe and a soothing white, gray and yellow palette.
