You won’t find any overcrowded luaus or wilted leis here. Perched on Lanai, the smallest publicly inhabited island on the Hawaiian archipelago, this spectacular resort and most of the 90,000-acre isle are owned by tech billionaire Larry Ellison—and it’s anything but a Hawaiian cliché. A lobby-to-roof revamp in February 2016 unveiled a striking makeover in the form of rich mahogany floors and zebra-wood walls in all 213 rooms, an adults-only grotto pool, and the replanted gardens, which replaced all existing greenery with a kaleidoscopic variety of strictly local plants.
