It seemed impossible, but the opening of the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo in December 2013 brought even more polish to this fancy seaside pocket of northwestern Costa Rica. Local It-architect Ronald Zürcher designed the hotel with a nod to the region's pristine natural beauty: a façade that resembles local shells and cocoons; caña brava and local stone throughout the public spaces; driftwood handicrafts by Costa Rican artisans on the walls; and Latin music that plays on a loop.
