An Instagram Influencer’s Packing List for Southern Italy
Packing for a Southern Italy getaway? Let Emily Brillanti (@emilybrillanti) be your guide. Founder of lifestyle/travel/fashion blog Vita Brillanti, Emily knows a thing or two about traveling in style. Just back from her trip to Puglia, she’s here to tell us about what she brought along and why.
Airplane Skincare Prep
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel
I always head to the airport without makeup on, especially for long flights—I don’t like feeling weighed down or greasy when I land in my destination. Once I board the plane, the first thing I use is an Alpha Beta Peel pad by Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare. They’re easy to slip into a carry-on and require just six minutes of your time. I swear they’re worth it!
Herbivore Botanicals Rose Quartz Facial Roller
Once my peel is finished, I do a quick run around with my rose quartz facial roller to get some added circulation going in my face before take off. I’m prone to getting puffy when I fly, so this is a simple way to combat that during the flight.
Herbivore Botanicals Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist
I have the 2 oz. travel-sized version of this face mist, which comes in handy when I need a quick burst of hydration mid-flight.
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream
I love all Kiehl’s products, but this face cream is easily one of my most coveted. I use it all the time and never leave home without it on long trips. It’s silky smooth on my skin and keeps it hydrated for hours.
Carry-On Must-Haves
MZ Wallace Crosby Traveler Bag
Let’s start with the perfect carry-on bag. I’m a huge fan of MZ Wallace—its Crosby Traveler bag just makes sense for the user. You can carry it as a handbag or a crossbody, and with so many pockets, I can fit everything I need in it. I keep my most-used items in the front pockets and items for safekeeping in the inside zipper pockets. The bag keeps everything easily accessible and fits nicely under my seat.
Sleep Master Sleep Mask
I’m a big plane sleeper. When I go to Italy, I typically always leave in the evening, so sleep is key to get me on track when I land in the AM there. This eye mask is amazing because it covers a huge part of your face and also goes over your ears to reduce unwanted sound when you’re sleeping.
Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment
I cannot stand it when I have chapped lips, which means I carry my Fresh Sugar lip treatment with me everywhere I go, especially on long trips.
Lou & Grey Terry Sweatpants
You will never find me sitting on a plane wearing jeans. Unless I’m doing a quick puddle jump, I find it necessary to be as comfortable as possible on a long flight, which means no tight pants. Lou & Grey carries some super soft options, like these terry sweats. That said, when I fly to Europe it’s nice to change into jeans once I land, which is also where my roomy MZ Wallace bag comes in handy. I shove my sweatpants in the bag and go on my way!
Passport Holder
If you’re a frequent international flyer, it’s nice to have a stylish passport holder. I love all the color and design options on these from Lovie Style. As an extra bonus, they also include a portable phone charger.

Clothing and Accessories
Ray-Ban Icons 53mm Retro Sunglass
I always bring a couple pairs of sunnies on any vacation. I particularly love these Ray-Bans because they’re versatile and go with everything.
Topshop String Macramé Tote
For days spent exploring small towns, I tote around this macramé purse from Topshop. Thanks to its neutral color, I can wear it with anything during my trip.
Reformation Zoe Side Slit Midi Skirt
You can’t go to Italy without at least one flowy skirt. I love this green polka dot one because I can dress it up or down for a night out or a day wandering around the markets.
Line & Dot Alder Sweater
Even though Southern Italy is warm for the most part, the nights can get cool so you best be prepared for those evenings and layer up!
Shashi Rio Hoop Earrings
I typically wear a lot of stud earrings, but I love these handcrafted wooden hoops for a change of pace.
Three Dots Long Button Up Dress
Linen is such a gorgeous, breezy fabric for summer, so I like to have at least one dress packed. It might take me seven minutes to iron, but it will be worth it.
Birkenstock Arizona Soft Suede Sandals
The amount of walking done in Southern Italy is no joke—comfort is key on those long days, and these sandals keep me cozy. No blisters for this girl!
Jaggar Converge Toe Ring Sandals
Just as much as I need comfortable walking shoes, I also always have to have a neutral heel with me on any trip. You never know when you might want to head out on the town for drinks and dinner, so pack a pair that will go with any outfit.
Technology and More
Anker Portable Charger
This is a no-brainer when you’re traveling. Having a back-up charge is so important if you’re out exploring all day (like I know I will be) and for long flights and layovers.

AWAY Suitcase
I think one of the best purchases I made in recent years is my Away carry-on suitcase. I bring this bag with me on every single trip because I can easily fit over five days of clothing into it. Along with this bag, I bring just one smaller checked bag, which is a huge relief when traveling for a long period of time.
Fuji X-E3 Digital Camera
This is one of my favorite cameras to carry around with me. It’s small and fits in my purse, making it perfect for days spent running around town or heading to the beach.
Canon EF 35mm Lens
Whenever I take out my Canon, this is the lens I use—it’s the power behind so many of my favorite vacation photos. Plus, it’s super durable.

Calpak Packing Cube Set
When I bring a bigger checked bag, I always use packing cubes to keep my clothes organized. I know that my tops are in one place, and same with my bottoms, makeup, etc., so it’s simple to unpack and stay on top of everything.
