The Best Vintage Stores in the U.S.
There’s nothing we love more than finding a major score while vintage shopping on vacation (retro Gucci sunglasses, 1920s dresses, old-school leather belts--we'll take it all). These are the 9 vintage shops across the country that top our list.
General Store
With two airy storefronts in California’s coolest cities (SF and LA), General Store is a must-shop for clotheshorses. Its “Found” section is the source for 1920s cotton eyelet dresses, Grateful Dead chambray shirts, and straight-leg Levi’s 501’s that have been worn and faded to perfection. We also love the expertly curated new wares like England-made sheepskin kimonos and Ghanaian straw purses.

Desert Vintage, Tucson AZ
Desert Vintage is a Tucson landmark that’s been attracting trend setters since it first opened in 1974. The new owners Salima Boufelfel and Robert Cowan have a killer eye for sourcing one-of-kind gems like cherry red Moroccan slides studded with pom poms, white sculptural earrings and 1920s cotton dresses.
Decades, LA
When Lalaland glitterati go gown shopping for an event, many turn to Decades on Melrose Avenue. Our favorite finds: a Chanel haute couture chiffon strapless dress (completely worth it, at $12,000) and a Balmain vintage satin mermaid gown so stunning it would turn anyone into Grace Kelly, if only for a night. The store also carries timeless Jean Paul Gaultier pieces. Be bold and get the yellow feather jacket, if we don’t beat you to it.

Fashionista Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Florida
Fashionista Palm Beach is where Florida’s exceedingly well-heeled head to find things they won’t spot in their friend’s walk-in-closets, from Thierry Mugler red wool skirt suits to Lanvin silk brocade jackets. Or, consider a sun hat—the shop is just one block from Ocean Boulevard and white-sand Palm Beach itself.

Bobby from Boston, MA
An iconic fixture in the South End, Bobby from Boston consistently ranks as the best vintage shop in Beantown. Since founder Bobby Garnett’s passing, the store is now run by his equally elegant daughter Jessica; you’ll likely find hand-tooled vintage leather belts and bowties of every stripe among the stylish wares.

In the Field, Ojai, CA
You know the vintage is bound to be good in Ojai, a boho-chic town just a two hour drive from Hollywood. In the Field’s Vintage section is stocked with rare one-off pieces (a turquoise necklace picked up in Santa Fe, a Lee Vintage denim jacket, and a beaded Sam Roberts hat that Georgia O’Keeffe would likely covet).

Shipwreck
Portland locals adore thrifted goods. Case in point: the vintage finds at Shipwreck, which carries a collection of highly coveted accessories and clothes like clogs from Stockholm, throwback Gucci purses and chunky wool sweaters that are oh-so-perfect when paired with your favorite pair of jeans.
Pretty Parlor
Any shop that has a bridal section knows vintage gorgeous—and Pretty Parlor, in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, is no exception (just look to the birdcage veils and hair combs made from rhinestones). We also say “I do” to their other offerings: Gatsby era day dresses, lace collars, embroidered velvet jackets, and swimsuits Liz Taylor would have longed for poolside in Palm Springs.
