Emirates Unveils New Mercedes-Benz-Inspired First Class Suites

Last month, the airline debuted its most luxe first class suite yet. Check it out.

A Brooklyn-based writer and editor, Chelsea's work has appeared in Matador Network, The Huffington Post, the TripAdvisor blog, and more. When not planning her next trip, you'll usually find her drinking way too much iced coffee (always iced—she’s from New England) or bingeing a Netflix original series.

Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, sleek design features lifted from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the industry’s very first virtual windows (which project the view outside using real-time camera technology) are just the first things you’ll notice about Emirates’ new first class suites.

Working in collaboration with Boeing, Rockwell Collins interior systems, Panasonic, Jacques Pierre Jean Design studio, Seattle-based design firm Teague, and the luxury car manufacturer itself, the airline’s latest upgrade sees the introduction of high-tech control panels, mood lighting, a soft grey, champagne, and cream color scheme, and buttery-soft leather seats that fully recline into a flat bed and can be placed in "zero-gravity" position (inspired by NASA technology) which allows for the ultimate in relaxation and a feeling of weightlessness.

Of course, if you’re familiar with Emirates, you know this isn’t their first rodeo. As the president of the airline, Sir Tim Clark, said, "Emirates pioneered the First Class private suite concept back in 2003, and today it’s the industry benchmark when it comes to first class travel.”

Within their own 40-square-feet of fully-enclosed personal space, passengers can view more than 2,500 channels of on-demand entertainment via 32-inch LCD TVs and listen to their choice of audio with custom-made Bowers & Wilkins Active Noise Cancelling E1 headphones created exclusively for Emirates’ new cabins.

When you’re ready to freshen up, look to your "inspiration kit" which features luxury Byredo skincare, Hydra Active moisturizing pajamas, and Bulgari amenity kits.

Upping the ante even more is additional on-the-ground services. First class passengers departing from/arriving in the UAE are also treated to complimentary Mercedes-Benz S-Class chauffeur service.

Can’t afford first class? (A roundtrip ticket from Geneva to Dubai goes for roughly $9,000.) The entire Emirates 777 aircraft—from business to economy—just received a multi-million-dollar upgrade that introduced new seats and improved inflight entertainment systems so you can’t really go wrong.
