How to Spend 48 Hours in Sydney, Australia
Weekend vibes are the best vibes at the end of a hard week’s work. So we thought we’d gather up some of our favorite weekend to-dos, put them all in one spot and let you explore to your heart’s content. If you ask us, a weekend well spent is one that includes a beautiful beach, buzzing bar and brilliant breakfast. There’s plenty to go around in Sydney, but we’ve given you our pick of the latest. Check them out.
The Beaches
We love Bondi Beach as much as the next Australian, but if you want to escape the crowds one weekend, look not much further and you’ll find Maroubra Beach at Maroubra Bay.
Just 20 minutes from Bondi—by way of Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly—Maroubra has some of the Eastern Suburbs’ gnarliest surf (for those who can!). With its beautiful, half-mile stretch of glowing white sand, there’s plenty of walking, swimming and tanning to be done here.
Like Maroubra, Tamarama offers some serious surf. Bronte Beach is at the bottom of cliffs and is a lovely place for a dip—there are Norfolk pines for shade and a picnic. Palm Beach is Sydney’s most northerly beach and regularly makes it onto lists of Sydney’s best beaches. The perfect place to tan, then strut your stuff.

The Eats
Three Blue Ducks, Bronte
Thoughtful, delicious food just up the hill from Bronte Beach, at the top of Bronte on Macpherson (or the ‘Top Shops’ as it’s known). Check out the great tunes, funky murals and chickens scratching around in the kitchen garden out back. This laid-back place is owned by a bunch of eco-minded guys who met up while traveling and came back home to set up a place that’s cafe by day, restaurant by night.

The Boathouse Palm Beach
This romantic spot in a working boathouse is a favorite. Beautiful atmosphere and decor, delicious, fresh foods and a stunning view overlooking the water. We love the homemade quinoa bircher with apple, dates and nuts, but the star of the place is the Eugalo Farm veggie bowl: poached eggs, mushrooms, avocado, brown rice, in-season greens and chili. Or, for a morning-after-the-night-before filler, a bacon and egg roll with barbecue sauce and cherry tomato chili jam may be more your style. In which case, wake up with one of their single-origin coffees, too, before getting up and at ’em.

Armchair Collective, Mona Vale
Perfect for breakfast before an idyllic day at the northern beaches. The food’s delicious—we’ll happily set ourselves up with a sweet-corn fritter with double-smoked maple bacon, avo salsa and poached egg, or some of the beautiful pastries. An awesome interior design shop shares the space with the restaurant. You’re bound to leave with a happy stomach and a beautiful something for your house.

M Deli Cafe, Tamarama
Fantastic organic breakfast and lunch food, delicious coffee and breads from Iggy’s Bakery in nearby Bronte: there are lots of treats here. Plus friendly service—we love!M Deli is tucked away behind Tamarama Beach and away from the main Bondi Beach area, but get there early to snag a seat before the joggers and power walkers drop in.
