The Best Adults-Only All-Inclusive Resorts in Riviera Maya
Sugary-white sand beaches, ancient ruins, and insanely good weather make Mexico’s Riviera Maya a favorite destination for romance-seeking couples. These adults-only, all-inclusive resorts offer some serious creature comforts for the grown up crowd.
TRS Yucatan Hotel
There may be close to 500 plus-sized rooms and suites at The Royal Suites Yucatan, but the adults-only resort somehow manages to feel intimate. Staff members know your name and your preferences, multiple restaurant options—from Argentinian steak at El Gaucho to French inspired La Bohème—mean meals are never overcrowded. Surrounded by tropical gardens with sweeping ocean views, the property has three pool areas, and guests have private access to a prized swathe of sand across the Grand Palladium building (accessible by golf cart). Total relaxation is within reach at the sprawling Zentropia Spa, which offers a full menu of massages and body treatments, including a hydrotherapy area with steam baths and Maya-inspired showers.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya
The elegant Grand Velas Riviera Maya occupies a verdant stretch of shorefront northeast of Playa del Carmen. And while the majority of the resort is family-friendly, The Grand Class area is an adults-only haven, with 90 ocean-view rooms and suites measuring at least 1,300 square-feet. The design-forward accommodations feature whirlpool tubs, private plunge pools, and soothing earth tones. Our favorite amenity? The 90,000-square-foot Se Spa, by far the largest spa in the region, with a signature, seven-step hydrotherapy journey.

Royal Hideaway Playacar
An early pioneer in the luxury all-inclusive space, Royal Hideaway Playacar opened two decades ago, and quickly earned a name in the region for unparalleled attention to service. All 200 guest rooms were recently revamped, with new artwork, mahogany furniture, and whirlpool tubs. Spend your days lounging or snorkeling by the wide beach, which looks out to the island of Cozumel just offshore, then head to the East Asian-inspired Azia for dinner or Las Ventanas, the hotel’s signature fine dining restaurant from chef Eugenio Villafaña.

El Dorado Casitas Royale
El Dorado Casitas Royale is an intimate, adults-only beachside retreat inside the sprawling El Dorado Royale. Thatch-roofed, two-story buildings house spacious rooms, which up the romance factor with outdoor showers and two-seater hot-tubs (some feature infinity-edge plunge pools or swim-up access from the lazy river pool). Indulge at the Náay Spa, whose design and treatments take inspiration from the region's ancient Maya heritage. Case in point: the spa offers shaman-led temazcal treatments, inside a traditional outdoor steam house whose design dates to pre-colonial times. Other activities on offer include tennis, scuba lessons and kayaking.
El Dorado Seaside Suites
Like many resorts on the Riviera Maya, El Dorado Seaside Suites comprises two distinct sections: the Colonial-style The Palms; and the more contemporary Infinity, which opened in 2015 with swim-up suites on every floor. Both areas are adults-only, meaning that all 10 restaurants and pool areas are as well, a rarity among the region’s top resorts. When you’ve had your fill of swimming, sunning, kayaking and snorkeling off the pristine, palm-lined beach, the ruins of Tulum are only 25 minutes south, while Playa del Carmen’s shops and nightlife are the same distance north.
The Royal Playa del Carmen
The Royal Playa del Carmen's airy, adults-only suites showcase elegant Spanish-colonial design, such as wood-beamed ceilings, wrought-iron chandeliers and polished stone floors. Oversized jet tubs inside each bedroom are perfect for couples, as are the hammocks found swaying on most balconies. Many suites feature swim-up access to semi-private pools, as well. The beachfront all-inclusive offers sun-seekers myriad options, from tennis courts, indulgent spa treatments and scuba lessons to multiple pools, including ones with in-pool hot tubs and one that’s Olympic-sized, with a 164-foot lap lane. The beach, of course, is a major draw, and the Royal’s in-town location gives it a livelier action than most Riviera Maya resorts, although cabanas provide privacy should you want it. One of few all-inclusives in the center of Playa del Carmen, is also an ideal stay for those looking to explore the city by foot.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun
Overlooking one of Mexico’s dreamiest stretches of sugary-sand, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun is a secluded escape that’s a perennial favorite for honeymooners. The garden-level suites have swim-out access to the curved pools that front each of the eleven guest buildings. Everything centers around the main central axis, home to two additional massive pools, where a giant palapa houses the Seaside Grill and Oceana restaurants. If those don't appeal, there are four other restaurants—including a fine-dining spot with a hibachi grill serving locally-sourced seafood, a romantic Italian bistro and, of course, a Mexican restaurant specializing in authentic cuisine.
