The Best Winter Rooftop Bars of Paris

Parisians flock to rooftop bars in the summertime, but good views don’t go out of style when the temperature drops. Luckily, the City of Light has invested in some heat lamps and cozy throws. So grab your gloves, put on some layers, and prepare for something stronger than hot cocoa.

On the seventh floor of a recently renovated 100-year-old hotel, The Terrass’’ Bar is dripping with charm and sophistication. From its spot on the rue Joseph-de-Maistre, you can see beyond the steely Montmartre rooftops to all of Paris. But views aren’t the only reason this spot is becoming a neighborhood favorite. The lush green plants and comfortable furniture feel instantly welcoming and the menu has three pages of whiskeys to warm you up (we love the Perfect Crime). If you truly can’t decide from their extensive offerings, the mixologists will craft a cocktail especially for you.

Le Montana

Black marble tables, leather couches, and B-list celebs abound at this exclusive Saint-Germain spot. In fact, the mythical club at the Montana Hotel and its sleek rooftop terrace are often referred to as the epitome of Parisian nightlife. Dress your best and get ready for a late one. Open every day and every night, the lamps and notably attractive clientele will help keep you warm during wintertime visits.

Le Perchoir du Marais

There are a few Le Perchoir bars scattered throughout Paris, but the Marais location on top of the BHV department store is our favorite. Meaning “the roost,” Le Perchoir is where the hip go to sip artisanal cocktails and enjoy fresh air. The stylish Marais outpost is often compared to a Greek island, but it’s taken a delightfully Scandinavian turn this December. Think: fir trees and shearling throws. The menu has followed suit, complete with black breads and smoked fish. It’s almost as cozy as a night in, but with the panoramic views of the Hôtel de Ville, Eiffel Tower, and Notre-Dame your pied-à-terre likely lacks.

Champagne and oysters? Count us in. The sleek and minimalist Cube Bar on top of the Galeries Lafayette is known for its delicious tapas and incredible views. It’s the perfect perch for post-shopping snacks or pre-party libations. In winter, Le Cube becomes the Ice Cube Bar and covers its iconic terrace with igloo-like glass domes. Warning: This spot isn’t exactly under-the-radar, so expect to see plenty of tourists. You’re here for the view anyway.

Brasserie Auteuil

Walking up the grand staircase and onto the rooftop of Brasserie Auteuil feel more like stepping into a chic Tuscan villa rather than the former Petit Ceinture railway station. The terrace’s extensive garden smells of roses and its heat lamps keep things balmy. Feast on a perfectly charred pizza as you sip a Buena Sera cocktail (Whisky Jack Daniel’s, ginger beer, thé noir, miel).

Café Georges

You can skip the restaurant at Café Georges at the Pompidou, but the views from its rooftop bar are a must-see. We’re talking unobstructed vistas of the Panthéon, Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, and Grand Palais. The décor is purposely austere to contrast the museum’s art and the bar turns out all manner of vodka-infused concoctions. Go at sunset for some incredible Insta-bait.
