The 2018 Fashion Trends You’ll Be Seeing Everywhere

Every new year ushers in a crop of "it" fashion trends, from retro resurrections to innovative styles. Love them, or (really, really) hate them, we’ve tracked down 10 of the fads you’ll be spotting everywhere this year, from chic French berets to ‘90s-favored logo tees.

A Brooklyn-based writer and editor, Chelsea's work has appeared in Matador Network, The Huffington Post, the TripAdvisor blog, and more. When not planning her next trip, you'll usually find her drinking way too much iced coffee (always iced—she’s from New England) or bingeing a Netflix original series.

Wide-Leg Pants

If you live in NYC or have one of those friends who’s somehow always ahead of trends, then you likely saw the start of this ’70s revival last year. But now, the full silhouette is wholly here to stay. Though skinny jeans have dominated the scene for the last decade, or so, the wide-leg trouser is back and in every major retail window (Zara, Madewell, Mango, Topshop, etc.). Oh, and FYI—there’s a trend within the trend: the crop cut. Pairs that would previously be dubbed ‘floods’ are now the hottest fad.

Statement Earrings

Though minimalist, ultra-delicate jewelry (see: teeny-tiny studs, stackable rings, and dainty layered necklaces) reigned supreme over the last few years, the tables are beginning to turn. This year, the ’80s are effectively back, and in the form of in-your-face earrings. Pull out your biggest hoops and other metallic, geometric baubles to add an on-trend finishing touch to any outfit.

Vintage Blue Jeans

Denim obsession is nothing new—it’s arguably the most quintessentially all-American item in our wardrobe—but the mania will hit new heights this year with elevated loyalty to vintage-styled pairs. Think: Levi’s original 501s with button flies, and tapered and wide-leg silhouettes that stray far from skinny.

Classic Berets

Let’s get one thing straight: French style will forever be in vogue. The world has been trying to imitate the European nation’s effortless chic style for decades, and 2018’s take on the Parisian cool girl just happens to focus in on a classic accessory: the beret.

’90s-esque Logomania

Though the ’90s presented some questionable (to say the least) fashions, there are a few we’re here for—and that includes logomania. Nostalgic for the days when brands blasted their logos on everything? If so, restock your wardrobe with T-shirts, slides, sweatpants and more from brands like Adidas, Fila, Gucci, Givenchy, and Levi’s.

Sheer Fabrics

Barely-there fabric is one of the year’s most prevailing trends. Don’t worry, the see-through style isn’t about throwing modesty out the window or showing off a lot of skin or a slinky bralette—it’s all about layering. Tees, slips, jeans, and other solid closet staples are the perfect building block with which to start.

Funky Fringe

Add a bit of flare to any silhouette with this fun fad. Far from the tacky styles of Coachellas gone by, the 2018 reemergence of the boho trend—which can be seen on the runways of Céline, Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, Dior, and more—is a far more sophisticated take.

Micro-Purses

Bucket bags and oversized totes had their heyday (and obviously we’ll keep returning to them when we travel), but the latest teeny-tiny purse trend means we’ll never lose our phone or chapstick again.

Street-Style Sportswear

From Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma spring/summer 2018 line to Alexander Wang’s spring/summer 2018 line, sportswear is primed for another year in the limelight. Rather than layering a head-to-toe athleisure look, though, this year it’s all about incorporating less sporty items for a mix-and-match outfit.

Modern Utility

From high-fashion houses to affordable global retailers, this year, designers across the board are offering utilitarian twists on closet staples. We’re talking camouflage, raw edges, lots of pockets and zippers, boxy, tomboyish silhouettes, and other workwear-inspired details you’d probably sooner associate with a military surplus store. While the trend may not bode well with everyone, we can already hear the chorus of hallelujahs ringing out from the fuss-free among us.
