Editors’ Pick: If You Could Only Buy One Thing for Winter Travel

We kinda have a thing for shopping (be it window, online, or IRL), and when we're not researching the best buys on Amazon or finding the cozy winter sweaters you can't live without, we're dreaming about revamping our own closets. From charcoal-infused eye masks to waxed winter boots, these are the items we're longing for this season.

A Brooklyn-based writer and editor, Chelsea's work has appeared in Matador Network, The Huffington Post, the TripAdvisor blog, and more. When not planning her next trip, you'll usually find her drinking way too much iced coffee (always iced—she’s from New England) or bingeing a Netflix original series.

Proper Coat

“I’ve been avoiding blowing too much money on a proper winter coat for years now, but every time I hit the slopes, I regret not having invested in something substantial. This season, I’m headed to Whistler, and finally need to bite the bullet. This Prowess Jacket by Burton has it all—it’s waterproof and insulated, has a super-cozy sherpa fleece-lined collar and zip-out waist gaiter (for keeping out the cold and snow), and comes in some seriously eye-popping hues.”

Quality Boots

"Being from New England, it’s almost a pride point to act like the cold and snow doesn’t affect me. But now that I no longer live in the burbs and don’t have the luxury of a car, I’m looking to invest in a pair of quality winter boots that can weather my apartment-to-office commute and lots of walking. Lately, I’ve had eyes for Sorel’s 1964 Waxed Canvas Boot which is suited for temps as low as –25 degrees Fahrenheit."

Face Oil

"Winter is very drying on my skin, and whenever my skin feels too tight it is the only thing I can focus on. To prevent this distraction, I pack face oil for moisturizer whenever I travel to cold weather climates. I love Tarte's Maracuja oil, for its pleasant smell, fast drying action, and ability to not make my skin feel oily."

Luxe Eye Mask

"Holiday travel can be a major headache—especially if you're catching a redeye or stuck in the back of a gift-packed car. Since I'll be hitting the road this season, I'm testing out Morihata's Binchotan Eye Mask. The charcoal-infused satin mask helps rejuvenate skin reducing the appearance of tired, puffy eyes and eases you off to sleep."

Cozy Sweater

"Anyone who knows me can see that once winter hits, I live in sweaters. This season, I’m dreaming about taking a road trip through the southwest as I’ve always wanted to see fresh snow on the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. This sweater from Anthropologie looks like just the thing to keep me warm and cozy on my travels."

Denim Jacket

"I hate having to sacrifice my denim jacket when the temperature drops. This year, I’m going to pick up a Sherpa lined version so I can keep my denim-on-denim wardrobe while staying warm. Plus, this jacket will be so much easier to pack than a big winter coat for my travels this season."
