Avoid Checking a Bag

"I’m one of the many who avoid checking a bag at all costs, and as a chronic over packer, limiting what I pack is important. I’ve learned to say no to dresses, jeans, and makeup I never wear in my day-to-day life (but think for some reason I will on vacation), and just stick to the necessities. This season, I'm all about cozy basics like jeans, t-shirts, and sweaters that can be dressed up or down. This fuzzy mohair sweater has been my most recent go-to item."

Use E-Check In

"My advice is to do e-check in whenever possible so there’s less paperwork to print. I also always take screenshots of all my important travel documents and save them to my phone’s camera roll as the barcode is still scannable even without a working network connection. Oftentimes, I see people fumbling about at the front of airport security lines because they’re waiting for their network to load the content to their phone. This can take forever, and is especially frustrating for those who have everything ready."

Keep Your Footwear Cozy

“There are so many excuses for dressing up this time of year, but it’s all too easy to forget that those knee-high boots and holiday heels aren’t so welcome in other people’s houses. Whenever I travel home to spend quality nights in with family and friends, I always pack a pair of slippers. Far better than a pair of flimsy socks, these Minnetonkas keep your toes cozy and warm while keeping carpets spick and span.”

Let Your Duffel Decide

"Whenever I go on a quick trip I try to plan my outfits around how much I can fit in a duffel bag. I’m usually eager to explore once I get to a new place, and I don’t want to lug around a suitcase. A duffel bag allows me more freedom in case I can’t make it to my hotel right away. This one from Filson is the perfect blend of rugged and handsome, so it’s great for any destination.”

Go For Transitional Outfits

"I hate checking a bag, so I try to travel light and pack clothes that easily transition from day to night. One must-have item is a black dress that pairs well with both casual shoes and heels. This bell sleeve shift dress from Charles Henry is a great option."

Pack Away Your Purse

"I hate being a bag lady at the airport, so I always pack my purse away in my checked luggage and just travel with a backpack (like this one) until I get to my destination. That way, I have plenty of room for all my essentials: a good book, a few granola bars, my passport, wallet, and DSLR—without the bulk of an extra bag. Disclaimer: I'm usually a fervent advocate for NOT checking a bag at all, but during the holidays, it's often a necessary evil to transport gifts back and forth—so this is trick brings me minor comfort."
