8 Best Hotels in Lima, Peru

Spanish colonial facades; pre-Columbian and pre-Incan archeological sites and antiquities; world-renowned cuisine; and sprawling Pacific Ocean coastline—these are just a handful of the factors that make Peru’s capital such a vibrant cultural mecca. When it comes to bedding down in the Ciudad de los Reyes (City of Kings), you’ve got options. From boutique hotelitos in hip Miraflores, to Belle Époque-style mansions in posh Barranco, these 8 spots come out on top.

A Brooklyn-based writer and editor, Chelsea's work has appeared in Matador Network, The Huffington Post, the TripAdvisor blog, and more. When not planning her next trip, you'll usually find her drinking way too much iced coffee (always iced—she’s from New England) or bingeing a Netflix original series.

Country Club Lima Hotel

Before Lima even developed into the thriving city it is today, Country Club Lima Hotel was a grandiose stamp on the San Isidro neighborhood's lush landscape. This September, the hotel is fresh off of a nearly year-and-a-half-long remodel overseen by Argentine interior designer Francisco Lopez Bustos. Respecting the integrity of the original 1927 architecture—and working with more than 300 works of art from the Museo Pedro de Osma, Bustos introduced a “chic limeño” scheme (think dark woods and traditional textiles) to emphasize the 83 guestrooms’ spacious layouts and vaulted ceilings. Head to the Perroquet Restaurant for classic Peruvian dishes like lomo saltado and sea bass ceviche before grabbing a lauded pisco sour from the English Bar. If you’re in the mood for a few rounds, Country Club guests also have access to the private Lima Golf Club just across the street.

Hotel de Autor I

On a quiet cul-de-sac in Miraflores, this bespoke B&B welcomes guests with a home-away-from-home appeal. Although it’s within walking distance of Parque del Amor and Costa Verde, the converted three-story townhouse provides a secluded address perfect for recovering from nights out. Inside, four individually decorated suites mix and match vintage and contemporary touches and have either clawfoot tubs or private balconies. If the hotel is booked, check out its sister property, Hotel de Autor II, also in Miraflores.

Atemporal

This revamped, Tudor-style 1940s Miraflores mansion comes courtesy of the team behind Hotel B in neighboring Barranco. The chic, nine-room hotelito—just down the block from the Lima’s mystifying Huaca Pucllana pre-Inca pyramid—is all about next-level amenities, offering around the clock concierge service, complimentary use of the house car and chauffeur, free international calls, and nightly cocktail hours. Spend time in the boutique’s private veranda, salon, and garden, but don’t snooze on your room. The sophisticated digs feature high ceilings, original hardwood floors, eclectic textiles, and artwork from all over Peru.

Hotel B

Romantic interiors and funky Peruvian art offset this hotel’s aristocratic address in the posh Barranco district. Built in 1914 as the summer getaway of then-president Augusto Leguia, the Belle Époque-style mansion offers Pacific Ocean views, a rooftop sundeck with a plunge pool, and a signature restaurant by Oscar Velarde. Go for a spacious, second-floor Atelier room and you’ll find soaring 16-foot ceilings, vintage armoires, white Italian marble bathrooms, plush all-white king beds, and private balconies with views of either Saenz Peña Boulevard, tree-lined Calle San Martin, or Hotel B’s own courtyard.

Belmond Miraflores Park

When Belmond decided to take its hallmark understated elegance to Lima, it set its sights on Miraflores—one of the city’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Now, well into its stride as the city’s grandest stay, the clifftop 81-room hotel wows guests with floor-to-ceiling Pacific Ocean views, enviable spreads at Observatory restaurant, and top-shelf pisco sours at avant-garde Belo Bar. While cushy, suite-style accommodations make a strong argument for staying in, most guests hightail it to the heated rooftop pool which looks out over the city at large.

Hilton Lima Miraflores

One of Lima’s most elegant stays, the Hilton calls Miraflores’ Larcomar cultural district home. In a nod to the city’s past, minimalist guestrooms mix in subtle Peruvian Colonial elements like imitation Incan ceramics, and wooden headboards done up in the celosia-style found on Barranco’s balconies. When you’re not grabbing an expertly-mixed gin cocktail at the hotel's low-lit Social, burn off yesterday’s ceviche and pisco sour(s) with a visit to the top-floor fitness center or a few laps in the rooftop infinity pool. Either way, you won’t be hurting for views.

Swissôtel Lima

In Lima’s residential San Isidro district, Swissôtel Lima is flying high after completing a recent multi-million dollar expansion that upped its room count to 345. Per the brand’s signature feel, simplistic Swiss design runs throughout, but in this case, it’s met by subtle Peruvian flare in spacious guestrooms. If your workout routine hits the road when you do, you’ll find the hotel’s gym up to snuff thanks to personal trainers and cutting-edge equipment. Alternatively, if the only thing you're striving for is R&R, the five-star spa offers aromatherapy, deep tissue massage, and hydrotherapy circuits that'll help you unwind after long days of eating, drinking, and sightseeing.
