9 Surprisingly Affordable Hotels in Los Cabos

Los Cabos—at the very tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula—isn't known as the Resort Corridor for nothin'. Situated in an area where the desert meets the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez, the less than 20-miles of land that lies between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo is home to some of the world's most breathtaking (celeb-frequented) hotels. But before you're blinded by dollar signs, know that Los Cabos has plenty of stays that deliver on design, amenities, and affordability; here, our 9 favorite.

A Brooklyn-based writer and editor, Chelsea's work has appeared in Matador Network, The Huffington Post, the TripAdvisor blog, and more. When not planning her next trip, you'll usually find her drinking way too much iced coffee (always iced—she’s from New England) or bingeing a Netflix original series.

JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa

This five-star stay—from Marriott International’s luxury portfolio—first wows with its sleek modern architecture, every aspect of which emphasizes its natural surroundings via open-air spaces—right from the soaring lobby to the seamless infinity pools. From there, the guest rooms’ private sea-facing balconies and gourmet meals (often French-Mexican hybrids) at chef Thierry Blouet’s Café des Artistes certainly don’t hurt. Whatever you do, make it a priority to schedule a treatment at Jasha Spa & Salon. Check out the modern-day temazcal (purifying Aztec sweat lodge) or go for the relaxation lounge alone (think vitality pools, jacuzzis, an outdoor lap pool, and plush chaise lounges).

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

Keep your eyes peeled for deals at this all-age all-inclusive and you’ll get a taste of luxury for less than $300 a night. At that price, you’d expect corners to be cut, right? But no, not here—all-inclusive amenities include dining at seven onsite restaurants (try out Spanish tapas, sushi, rustic Italian, local specialties, and more), unlimited cocktails (or beer, or wine—whatever’s your speed), access to an array of pools (including adult-only and infinity), beach and pool butler service, and family-friendly daily activities. When it’s time to tuck away for the night, you’ll find a spacious, handsome guest room done up with handmade furnishings, a spa-inspired bathroom, and state-of-the-art electronics.

Bahia Hotel & Beach House

This hip boutique rests in Cabo San Lucas’ historic Médano Beach district, just minutes from the shore and buzz of downtown. While the hotel had already made a name for itself with its sceney, beachfront Bar Esquina, SUR Beach House is the talk of town. Head there for a traditionally Mexican menu—at the offset—loaded with Asian and Peruvian influence, and then follow up lunch with swimming or paddle boarding (the restaurant houses CABO SUP, so you can easily secure a rental). The most basic (read: affordable) of Bahia’s rooms lean more towards the retro when it comes to design, but goose down comforters, soaring ceilings, and MALIN GOETZ bath amenities ensure that they’re just as comfortable as modernly-styled (rice-reflective) rooms.

Solmar Resort

Located in one of Los Cabos’ most covetable areas, this all-suite resort is simultaneously secluded and at the heart of everything— just a 10-minute walk from the excitement of downtown Cabo San Lucas. While guest rooms tend to be more rustic than refined, you can expect private balconies, kitchen facilities, marble floors, and fine linens. When it comes to filling your days, you’ve got plenty of options. Bliss out at the oceanside spa with locally-grown Nopal cactus face masks, dine on shrimp enchiladas at authentic Baja eatery El Trebol, or go for a refreshing mojito from one of the infinity pools’ swim-up bars.

Sheraton Grand Los Cabos Hacienda del Mar

From the outside, the Sheraton Grand Los Cabos Hacienda del Mar is all playful Mediterranean architecture, but inside, pared-down interiors are a taste of Old Mexico with wrought iron accents, ample earth tones, cool-to-the-touch tile floors, and hand-carved furniture. With access to Tortuga Beach—the property’s private stretch—as well as five pools (where dedicated pool concierges are on-hand to furnish fresh towels, snacks, and drinks from La Sirenas Bar), there’s plenty of opportunity for relaxation. Of course, if you want to go all-in on pampering, the Hacienda-style Cactus Spa provides personally-tailored treatments from reflexology to aromatherapy facials. Looking for something a little more active? Then you’ll appreciate the Sheraton’s address as it’s just steps from the Jack Nicklaus-designed Cabo del Sol Ocean and Desert golf courses.

Casa del Mar Golf Resort & Spa

This 50-room, all-suite boutique proves that luxe digs, glam pool scenes, and dramatic settings don’t have to break the bank. Every suite at the hacienda-style resort features a jacuzzi, Mexican artwork, antique Antiguan furnishings, and a private Sea of Cortez-facing terrace. Since it’s all about R&R in the Resort Corridor—and you saved a chunk of change on your stay— sip on a midday cocktail (and munch on chips and guac) while lounging around one of the five pools, or head off to the Sueños del Mar Spa for a signature holistic treatment. Both will have you well rested ahead of a night out in Cabo San Lucas.

Hotel El Ganzo

Most luxury hotels in Los Cabos pour all their focus into two crowd-pleasing components like five-star dining and sumptuous spa treatments. While boutique Hotel El Ganzo (in Cabo San Lucas' quieter sister, San José del Cabo) checks off both these boxes (go for the ceviche and chilaquiles at Ganzo Downstairs and healing Mayan massages at the onsite spa)—it also brings to the table local and international artistry in the form of resident painters, musicians and all around creatives. The intimate spot’s cool kid status is also upped by the El Ganzo Sessions—a live music series quite akin to MTV’s Unplugged. Oh—and guest rooms are unfathomably luxe given their wallet-friendly rate (think: crisp, white Italian linens, full-size organic bath products, and open-air terraces).

Cabo Azul Resort by Diamond Resorts

Located on 12 oceanfront acres in San José del Cabo, Cabo Azul is a sprawling resort—with some 347 rooms— that somehow maintains an intimate, laid-back ambiance. Sophisticated suites and villas feel more like private homes than cookie cutter hotel rooms; all have spa tubs, polished stone floors, dark wood furnishings, private verandas, and gauzy curtains that let in plenty of sunlight. Head down to the beach to kick back in a thatch-roofed palapa, or spend some time at the tri-level infinity-edge pool—taking care to grab an icy margarita at the al fresco Flor de Noche swim-up bar.

Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort

Resting between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas on the Resort Corridor, this Hilton outpost keeps luxe amenities at a premium but costs at a minimum (rates often fall below $250 a night). Spacious, elegantly-appointed guest rooms adhere to a soft white and blue color scheme that reflects the ocean and sky, and every room has a private, furnished balcony with striking views of the Sea of Cortez. Spend your days in the surf (the hotel harbors one of Cabo’s only swim-safe beaches), hit the links at one of the area’s myriad championship golf courses (Cabo Real, Cabo del Sol, Palmilla Golf Club, etc.), or hit the sea for some deep sea fishing and El Arco views. Looking to stay on budget by staying onsite? Kick it by Hilton’s iconic, sea-facing infinity pool.
