Fantastic, relaxing break
Reviewed 2 days ago

Lovely hotel, great pool area, fabulous beach, but the staff absolutely made the holiday. Happy, cheerful people who can’t do enough for you. They’re all an absolute credit to the hotel. Waiter service by the pool and on the beach. If you’re looking for noise and non-stop entertainment, this hotel isn’t for you! Quiet, restful and relaxing. Exactly what we wanted.

Never go back . . . ?
Reviewed 5 days ago

Google “never go back” and it flags a clutch of things through action movies to self improvement books and the latest Jack Reacher thriller.
But for Aqua Blue, I’d make an exception to the rule.
Looking back it shocked me to find there were three whole years since we had last been to Kos. I had reviewed the hotel in 2016 (five stars then, as now).
But poor Kos had taken a battering in the meantime. There was an earthquake in 2017; crises with refugees dented confidence in tourism. Yet we saw ourselves in 2016 the kindness of local people to the desperate survivors reported also in EuroNews:
“Across the islands everyone from fishermen, housewives, pensioners and teachers have opened their arms and homes for the refugees who have landed with nothing.”
Yet Greek authorities say the negative impact on tourism has been huge: Kos witnessed no fewer than 178,000 hotel booking cancellations, while in Leros and Lesbos cancellations were up 30%. Longer-term, in Kos, reservations for 2017 fell by 60%.
So every reason to vote with our feet and support these great people.
The island will always be beautiful; Kos Town still shows signs of damage, but Eleftheriou Square remains cheerful and vibrant of an evening; the shops in the old town are a delight; restaurants abound with wonderful food (especially – but not only – fish). Our favourite was Aegli, amazing food and service and great for “people watching” on the square.
The hotel merits all its five star reviews. The staff are great, but never intrusive. The breakfast buffet alone is a work of art, and fine dining at the Cuvee restaurant is the equal of any we have enjoyed.
Great pool, no shortage of sunbeds (all extremely comfortable), a splendid beach looking over the Aegean to Bodrun and the Turkish coast. Car hire from Avance was only forty quid for a couple of days with an open top Datsun to explore the mountains and coast.
We flew with Jet2 from Leeds-Bradford. Good flight times and 22k of luggage. Punctual departure in both directions: what’s not to like?
With only one life and a world full of wonderful places we have never seen, would we go back?
This was our third visit to Aqua Blue – but not the last. Don’t miss it.

All round excellence

All top notch. Rooms decent size, drinks more so. First class breakfast and a quite superb haute cuisine restaurant (which holds its own amongst the many Michelin starred ones we have visited.

The best aspect is the extraordinarily friendly and helpful staff, who all were exceptionally charming and professional.

One of the best boutique hotels we have stayed in.

Missed The Mark

This hotel is so close but so far away from providing a perfect holiday. It’s location is on a bend on a main route to Kos town and thus is noisy especially in the morning and late afternoon. Breakfast in the main is excellent though you are not directly offered champagne, you have to seek it out. Also one waiter seemed only capable of serving half glasses of juice, water or coffee. Four days in and at last the ungainly grass was cut though the weeds through the decking was left untouched. The Pool is not heated and thus is a huge negative few punters were brave enough to try it, a joke when the outside temp was 28 Deg. I would say it was about 20 Deg which is far too cold.Sunbeds very comfortable, massage very good but to charge €20 to use indoor pool for 1 hour is in opinion extortion especially as steam room and Sauna were switched off. Pool service efficient but €15 for a weak G&T and half glasses of beer served. As it happened we were charged three different prices over a week for the same G&T, €13,14 and €15. Room was OK though foam pillows cheap and uncomfortable, water was in room on arrival and then never replenished, little touches make a good hotel great and Aqua Blu are missing a trick by penny pinching. Cocktail party nice touch but in 50 years I have never seen such tiny glasses. Kos like much of Greece is still suffering and trying to rebuild with much poverty and derelict or empty shops and Hotels thus those still here need to be perfect to attract and maintain customers and thus we won’t ever ever ever be back to Kos or Aqua Blu.
