How to Get There
The resort consists of multiple hotels with the TRS section as the adults only luxurious section. All parts of the resort are open to TRS guests, while some restaurants, bars and pools are exclusive for those.
Anytime we desired to go somewhere on the sizable grounds there was the option of calling a golf cart to take you there - of course you can also walk anywhere.
We didn’t find the time to visit it, but there’s also a cenote on the grounds open to visitors.
The staff was incredibly friendly, the room was nice and well appointed (if a bit musty). The minibar selection was adjusted to our liking- including providing a selection of full sized spirit bottles. We especially enjoyed the big whirlpool tub on our balcony.
Breakfast and lung were great, the only slight downside was the food we had for dinner which didn’t quite achieve the same great standards.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay there and can certainly recommend it.
We stayed in a junior suite between 13/5/19 and 23/5/19. Our first trip to Mexico and definitely won't be our last! We were in villa 67, room 20 (1st floor) which overlooked the infinity pool & sea and was just a short stroll from Helios for breakfast. A perfect location! The room was clean and well furnished with good air conditioning, comfy beds x 2, great shower and bath.
We had 3 butlers (Memo, Jesus and Mariana) who were all super-helpful. The buggy drivers were all fabulous and never too far away. You can call a buggy either via your butler or via the Uber-style service on the hotel app on your phone.
The restaurants are very good in TRS with the Italian being our favourite. While steaks were available in every restaurant, we found that they very much catered for US appetites i.e. size over quality, so they were huge but not tender - but this is not a big deal as there are plenty of delicious alternatives in all restaurants. We did eat in the other hotels on the resort but we definitely preferred the adult-only options at TRS. Our favourite waiters at Helios were Manolo and Gabriel - their service was the same for everyone. Unfortunately there are one or 2 who focus very much on the US visitors in the hope of larger tips but this is only a small niggle.
The spa is fantastic - lovely pools and tranquil environment. There is a great steam room too! We didn't have any treatments as they were much more expensive than our usual therapist at home and we didn't see the point when we were already relaxed! Lying in the shaded hammocks was blissful.
Mini golf was ok - the course could do with some improvement though as it is a little basic and tired. You definitely need bug spray but if you forget, they keep a bottle that you can use at the booth which is a thoughtful touch. I usually get eaten alive and was expecting to be plagued in Mexico but was not too bothered. Not sure whether that was because the numbers were down or because I was using Mosquito Milk for the first time (available on Amazon)?
The seaweed is a real problem for the whole area and the resort is working hard to clear it all day but it is relentless. This didn't bother us as we prefer the pool but I guess it might put some people off. However, the pools are all amazing. The Infinity pool is beautiful and there is always a strong breeze there so it is easy to get sunburned without realising. They need more parasols really. The Terraza pool is fantastic - smaller and more intimate with less breeze. There are Bali beds at both pools but the Terraza has fixed thatched parasols (which are much better) for the regular sunbeds. There are a few lizards wandering around but they don't bother anybody. Fat Larry (he's bigger than the others) just strolls around as if he owns the place!
The grounds are well-kept and there is a Cenote directly opposite the TRS Reception/lobby which is worth seeing - they light it up at night too. There are lizards, flamingoes and lots of different birds and it is great to see how responsible the resort is about it's environment. Walking through the mangroves on the covered walkways is a lovely way of getting about. Also, it is super-clean. You see cleaners everywhere sweeping (when there is no visible dirt!) and the glass baloustrades by the Infinity pool and Helios restaurant windows are cleaned every day.
As everyone else has said, Chic Cabaret is definitely worth a visit. I expected tacky and was completely wrong. The food was good and the show was amazing. Nightlife is not this hotel's strongpoint (but not an issue for us) so the show changes things up a little.
In all, it is almost impossible to find anything really negative to say about this hotel and if we did, it would be nit-picky trivialities such as the toilets in the rooms being set too high (my legs were dangling!) or the sunbeds by the Infinity pool being reserved early. But these are such tiny things that they don't remotely spoil the experience.
We WILL be back!
Take a travel kettle if you want tea as there is only a coffee machine in the rooms.
Take a re-useable water bottle and ask the waiters to fill them rather than use single use plastic ones - we took the lightweight metal ones and they stayed cold for ages.
Tipping - you don't have to tip everyone. Just those you feel have given particularly good service (but this IS pretty much everyone!).
Take enough suncream as it is expensive in the resort shops.
Relax and enjoy!
Had a great time at TRS, beautiful grounds, excellent food, and top notch service. Would definitely stay again. Chic cabaret was really fun, however my husband and I did not like the food served at the show. Otherwise everything was great.
If you are even slightly contemplating a holiday at the TRS Yucatan hotel then just book it, this place is outstanding
4 outstanding restaurants for evening meals, the staff from the check in desk to the buggy drivers to the butlers to the restaurant staff are amazing. I could go on but just try this place for yourself you won’t be disappointed
Just a couple of things to point out
This is mostly for fellow Brits, if when you wake up in a morning you like to have a morning cup of tea then you need to take a travel kettle with you as there aren’t any kettles provided, fantastic coffee machine in the room with varying coffee pods but no kettle
Whilst the TRS Yucatan is an all inclusive hotel please be aware that despite having access to all the top branded spirits only the house wine in the restaurants is part of the all inclusive, if you choose to have some wine off the wine menu you will be charged.
Make sure you go to The Chic night, it’s fantastic, there is a dress code for men which means men have to wear long trousers without exception and closed toe footwear. It bugged me a bit this because whilst men are made to wear long trousers ladies are allowed to wear shorts which for me is a bit sexist, I appreciate the reason for the dress code but for me a pair of chino shorts are far smarter than a pair of jeans but that’s just a personal opinion
Finally make sure you visit the hotels private beach, it’s so peaceful and tranquil with lovely sun loungers and huts to lay in
Loved nearly every thing about this resort. Would like
To have more music at the pools. The cart service and drivers were excellent. Going the extra mile to see when we needed picked up later in the evening and being there when he said. (Thanks ALBERTO)
Bartenders are top notch. Seemed to run out of some of the better vodka and gin but that is probably normal with an all inclusive.
