How to Get There
TRS Yucatan was better than we ever could have expected. The space itself is nothing less than luxurious from the stunning lobby to the immaculate grounds to the sparkling clean rooms. Our room was spacious with a rainfall showerhead, plenty of space, a front sitting room compete with fridge, espresso machine, snacks, refreshments, and beer( replenished each day). We had plenty of space to hang our clothes, a space to lock our valuables , a king size bed with a flat screen tv, and our own private pool. Our pool was in villa 62 and was very private. However, some buildings did not have as private of pools.
There are taxi trolleys that will take you all over the resort. We preferred the TRS side due to less crowds and a much higher level of service. The twenty four hour butler service is fabulous. We could not have been any more pleased with our butlers Sergio, Samuel, and Ramon. They were pleasant, helpful, and very thoughtful. We came back one night to rose petals on our bed, in celebration of our honeymoon (Thanks Ramon!)!
The food here is wonderful! We enjoyed Helios, Tentazione, El Gaucho, Capricho, and Chic Cabaret. We did not make it to the French restaurant, La Boheme, due to confusion of schedule. Note that Tentazione and La Boheme at not open as frequently as the others. If you want to dine a specific time, make a reservation. Otherwise you can usually go and eat if you are fine with waiting for a few minutes. We did not mind at all because while you waited, you enjoyed a beverage. The breakfast at Capricho was great. But one of our favorites was Helios lunch. We had Enrique nearly every day as our waiter. He was extremely attentive and so kind. He kept our water glasses filled and always checked in on our meal or drinks. Before we left, he even brought us a special dessert plate in honor of our last day! You can order off menu or go to the buffet. And the gourmet buffet is absolutely delicious and has many options from sushi to Mexican to everything in between.
In addition, we enjoyed the gym (located at the spa), and had a couples massage, body scrub, and facial treatment. It was marvelous. The spa offers a deal on that. Look for the spa guys (in blue collared shirts that will help you find the best deal for your situation). In addition, if you stay at TRS you can use the spa’s hydrotherapy for free which is a mix of pools and jacuzzis that get you totally relaxed. We also did a half day excursion with one of the companies who have liaisons in the lobby. The excursion was called underwater world where we snorkeled with sea turtles (we saw three) and went to cenotes!!!
My husband and I vacationed with 2 other couples in July, we booked through Tripguy Travel. Mitch, Laurie and Flo at Tripguy were professional and fantastic to work with, I usually book all of my trips myself but not anymore!! Our airport private transfer was with Lomas travel, they were great as well!! The resort is undeniably beautiful but the thing that drew us back again (this was our second time) were the friendliest people working at TRS (and the food), they go above and beyond to make sure that you have EVERYTHING that you need and they genuinely seem to care. Our favorite restraunt was Helios. Jorge and Martha always greeted us by name and were the most fantastic waitstaff probably in the entire world, LOL. After the first day, every morning for breakfast Martha would already have our cappuccinos and mimosas ordered before we even sat down at the table, it was incredible and I miss them terribly!! Amin who we booked our Spa with, Jo the photographer and our Butlers were wonderful too!! The only thing wrong with this trip was that it was too short, next time we will stay 2 weeks!!
We took a 5 night trip to the TRS Yucatan Adults Only Resort and stayed in the Romance Bungalow. We arrived late in the day so we were anxious to go relax. Check-in was smooth and quick. We were offered a drink and cool towel and thought we were on our way to our room however we were taken to someone who gave us a sales pitch to attend the vacation club viewing. We were not interested but felt pressured to make a reservation to attend the breakfast and meeting. After reconsideration of how that would take away from what we really wanted (rest and relaxation) we cancelled after fighting off requests to go to other meetings. Here are our experiences at TRS.
The service at this resort is top notch! The people at this resort can't do enough to help you in anyway that they can. I first want to mention Alberto who drives one of the carts that are used to get you around the resort. He is absolutely the best. He is extremely welcoming and will even give his WhatsApp number to call him directly for a ride. (WhatsApp is a big way of communication here). Whenever we would ask about the different animals you see running around he would follow with "they are poisonous' before telling you he was kidding. He was very funny. He even took us to the Cenote that is onsite that we were unaware of. The workers at the infinity pool that would bring you drinks constantly throughout the day were unbelievable as well as the gentleman that was up early in the morning setting up the towels on the beds and chairs. He spoke limited English but everyday we found a way to communicate. He was always happy. The restaurant service was terrific. Some of the people I would like to commend are Marlene, Wendy, Gabriela. However, the entire staff was great.
The infinity pool was unbelievable. The water temperature was just perfect and the view to the water from the pool was great. It was the best pool at a resort that we have been in. The cabana beds around the pool area were great for relief from the sun. We did find that the sun is such that we really didn't burn here and we spent a 1/3rd of time on a sun chair, 1/3rd in the cabana, and 1/3rd in the pool. Very relaxing.
The Romance Bungalow comes with a Butler for making restaurant reservations and handle issues. We arrived to our Bungalow and it was pretty much what we expected with a few exceptions. It is not an issue with us but you will find there is no privacy inside with the exception of a sliding door with a mirror for the toilet. After reading some reviews we decided to bring a shower curtain for the outside shower as we heard some of the bungalows had buildings overlooking them with no privacy so if you like to shower outside sans clothing be prepared. We were lucky as there was no building but the river which you can canoe in had a great view into our shower so the curtain came in handy. Also be aware that it is outside so you can find pretty big droppings so before stepping do some looking. The Bungalow was supposed to come with a canoe but there was none. This was rectified by the Butler. Also, there was a small vanity light which did not work. It was battery run so I opened it to try and rotate the batteries but when I did I found the batteries had exploded. After advising the butler of this I was told it was going to be hard finding a replacement and sure enough there was no replacement. My wife was a bit disappointed. I am thinking someone in maintenance could have probably cleaned it out and sandpaper the connections and it might have worked but not what you would expect of a 5 star resort. The TV went on the blink on the last night and the channels just kept changing on their own or not even allowing us to watch. A text to the Butler got me no results so we did not have a TV available on the last night.
Restaurants and Entertainment
Our best place was the Italian food which was surprising since we are usually pretty picky with our Italian food. Second was the French Restaurant. We were extremely disappointed with El Goucho and the dinner at Helios. Breakfast and Lunch at Helios was better as well as breakfast at Capricho. It would have been nice to have a Mexican restaurant onsite instead of having to travel to one of the sister resorts where there were families. We were not as thrilled with Chic Cabaret. I guess we are food snobs but we found that the food was lacking. As far as the Chic, I tried reserving over a month before getting there but was told to wait until the last week before coming for a final date. Well I didn't think that would end up putting us in the back row to the side of the stage. And the food may have been good but the fish they had was not to our liking and there was a set menu so anything else was out of the question. As far as the show there were some decent performers and I know I shouldn't compare the two but we have been to shows in NYC as well as local shows which outshined this by a lot. I would have been fine with either a decent seat or decent food but received neither.
We would return with the knowledge we have of what to do and where to eat. You can't beat great service, beautiful weather, and great water. I just wish they would just take that finaly step to be 5 star in all areas of the resort. They already have the service portion covered!!
