Cozy, year-round inn on the edge of York Harbor, with harborside dining and views of Maine’s rugged coastline

The Look

The folks at Stage Neck Inn know just what travelers who choose this York Harbor location are looking for: a taste of true Northeastern charm and laid-back coastal living, clambakes and all. There’s no valet or flashy lobby here — just a friendly welcome from the knowledgeable staff at the front desk. You’ll feel the boutique resort’s innate warmth and quaint style immediately. Antique floral printed sofas are placed in front of a fireplace, around which tea and cookies are served every afternoon.

Bed & Bath

The 58 spacious guestrooms are simply appointed, but most have private patios and balconies and gorgeous views of the ocean. All the home comforts are present (free WiFi, DVD players, coffee makers, small fridges and more), and the simple bathrooms have walk-in showers or deep tubs. Trust us, when you throw open the windows and smell the salty sea air, you won’t miss designer toiletries.

After a day of antiquing or wandering through town, a drink in the cozy hotel bar is a welcome warm up to dinner at on-site restaurant, Harbor Porches. Expect such hearty New England dishes as oyster po’boy, spicy lamb rack and Maine lobster rolls in the open-plan dining room, and a traditional buffet breakfast with a coastline view every morning. The indoor pool and small fitness center are open year round, and the seasonal outdoor pool reopens in late June.

Weekend getaway

Beautiful location and awesome staff. Had an issue with our initial room and they made it right. Had an amazing dinner and breakfast. My wife’s haddock was probably the best fish we’ve ever had comparing to fresh halibut in Alaska and Iceland that was just caught. Highly recommend.

Not great

I stayed at the Stage Neck Inn over the 4th of July holiday weekend with my family for the second year in a row. I think this will be our last stay. Although the restaurant is excellent, the rest of the “resort” is not great. We booked a double room with a water view and when we arrived, we were given a room with 1 king bed. I received a written confirmation of the double room prior to our stay, but the staff said that they planned to switch the room to 2 beds at some point. They just had not gotten to it yet. Due to the holiday weekend there were no rooms available to move us to, so they offered a cot (which comes with a nightly charge). I had paid over $1000 in advance for our stay, which was no refundable, so we stayed. We did take the cot so we had enough beds, but it was old and rather gross, as was the room in general. The air conditioning was not functioning properly, so the room fluctuated from very hot to cool on a 10-15 minute cycle throughout the day and night. The AC was loud and the constant cycling made it difficult to sleep. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, and we found trash behind furniture when looking for an outlet. The bathroom was also old, dirty and the tub did not drain so we had to shower in about 3 inches of standing water. There is also a $15/person daily charge for children, which presumably pays for the “free” very basic breakfast buffet. With the room rate, taxes, fees and auto-gratuities the stay cost almost $600 per night. There are many other options in the area that are reasonably priced where hotel management is aware they are in the hospitality business. Also, there is poison ivy all over the grounds, so be careful if you try to go for a walk.

Charged us twice with no apology!

We were there June 2019, first of all it says free WiFi and breakfast but they have you sign a paper at breakfast. I said why do you advertise free breakfast if you charge for it they said oh it's free this is for Wi-Fi and such. Okay last day checking out we got a bill before breakfast so we went to check out it was more money , I asked why they said you had breakfast! Three days later I went to use a credit card that we bought from triple WAS specially for this trip. I had money left that I wanted to spend looked like a idiot in line at a store, they said insufficient funds. I called up credit card company was told stage neck inn charged you twice! Called them Doris from accounting called said they checked it wasn't them I said look your inn is the only place this card was used! We had to have a three way call to credit company before she believed it then hung up during the call!!!! No sorry for your inconvenience and Mr. Foster the manager never called to apologize!!! Never again!!!! Check your cards if you go but after the way we were treated I wouldn't suggest you going there. Oh and beds weren't comfortable at all!!!!!!! Rooms needed updating and bathroom door was difficult to open and close, couldn't even bring a towel to the beach!
