Located in Wisconsin’s Kohler Village, one of the first planned communities in the country and named after the pioneering company that produces bathtubs and faucets, the lakeside hotel blends modern-day ambiance and convenience for business and leisure travelers. All 121 rooms feature the signature Kohler shower experience, with multiple fixtures that make every bathroom feel like its own spa. The black-and-white room décor is simple but contemporary: crisp white duvets, upholstered headboards, and white tiled bathrooms. With four championship courses nearby, the hotel is hugely popular with golf enthusiasts, who make up the majority of guests during warm-weather months. A five-star spa, complete with a European-inspired swimming pool and the latest in Kohler fixtures, and sports club that features an indoor pool, racquetball courts, and dozens of classes, round out the amenities.
In the Area
The inn may be a hole-in-one hit with golfers, but travelers of all types will find plenty to keep them busy in Kohler Village, which traces its roots to the early 1900s and is a tourist destination on its own. More than 20 shops and boutiques specialize in men’s and women’s apparel, antiques, and collectibles; there’s also a food market with a demonstration kitchen. Within easy walking distance is the famous Craverie Chocolatier Café, a French-inspired sweet spot with a dizzying selection of exquisite pastries and chocolates: the Original Buttery Terrapin, a delectable mix of chocolate, pecans, and caramel, is a perennial favorite. Snap up some unique, Midwest-inspired souvenirs, like a locally made apron, at The Wisconsin Trader. Wrap up the day with a pint at the Horse and Plow, a historic tavern that was once the watering hole for Kohler Co. workers.
How to Get There
Stayed at the Inn during a race weekend at Road America, so rates were not cheap and had to book a package for the weekend portion of the stay. Hotel and setting are lovely, but the housekeeping service for the majority of the stay prevents me from giving it any higher than an average rating for the stay. First day housekeeping service (6/21/18) was fantastic. The remainder of the stay (6/22-6/25/2018), bed were barely made, towels were left on the floor and it took 2 and half days to get a new box of Kleenex. As I attend this race weekend often, will be in the area again next year, but think I will be looking elsewhere in 2019.
Overall the Inn is lovely, however while the facility is nice and the people are friendly, the level of service was not as projected. Housekeeping slow and had to ask for beds to be made and towels to be refreshed. No one at front to help with bags and when told someone would come to room to help, nobody showed. Again, everyone was nice, but I would not stay there again.
While visiting in Kohler , my mother & I stopped in to get a cocktail. Our bartender Isabel made my drink perfect! What made it special was that she has lived in Kohler all her life and could tell us all about the area & things to do! So nice! We will be back!
I spent one night at this property in May. I typically stay at chain properties while traveling for business but my client recommended this hotel. The front desk staff were pleasant and welcoming. The room was well appointed and the bathroom was impressive (not surprising that it was all Kohler fixtures). Breakfast was included in my room package and it was excellent. The outside patio area was nice with views of the lake. I would definitely return if back in the area again and highly recommend staying at The Inn.
We had a foursome stay at the Inn and played 3 rounds of golf. The Kohler Golf package included 2 nights so we added a third to avoid travel on the final day of golf. Less hectic! Room 1350 is a 2-bedroom suite on the 3rd floor with a common room and kitchenette area. Great for 4 golf buddies. After golf, have some refreshments and watch sporting events. Breakfast buffet in the morning was very good. 2 or 3 selections of hot food – eggs always an option. Fruit, yogurt, cereal and oatmeal are also options. Bring your sunglasses to breakfast. The sun shines right into the breakfast room and some tables can be hard to sit at -- it can be blinding. No kidding!
We played both Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits (Straits and Irish). After your first round you never see you clubs until after your last. The courses handle the golf bags for each day. They are with the caddies or on the carts when you arrive at each course. So if you want to use the putting green at the Inn, keep your putter and a sleeve of balls handy after each round. Although the shuttle runs to all the courses we opted to driver our own car.
Only downside, we didn’t receive any information about the package details except for the golf itself. We stopped in golf studio/simulator to browse the merchandise one night and were told there was a 10% coupon in the coupon book, which we didn’t receive, and that we could have played Whistling Straits on the simulator in lieu of the replay at the course. Now playing the Straits on the simulator would not even be close to the real thing, but after getting beat up on the course with 15-20 mph winds, having the option to play a few holes on the simulator could have been fun. Just to see the fly-overs of each hole we just played would have been pretty good. Ask when you check-in about the golf studio and what it has to offer.
