Located in Wisconsin’s Kohler Village, one of the first planned communities in the country and named after the pioneering company that produces bathtubs and faucets, the lakeside hotel blends modern-day ambiance and convenience for business and leisure travelers. All 121 rooms feature the signature Kohler shower experience, with multiple fixtures that make every bathroom feel like its own spa. The black-and-white room décor is simple but contemporary: crisp white duvets, upholstered headboards, and white tiled bathrooms. With four championship courses nearby, the hotel is hugely popular with golf enthusiasts, who make up the majority of guests during warm-weather months. A five-star spa, complete with a European-inspired swimming pool and the latest in Kohler fixtures, and sports club that features an indoor pool, racquetball courts, and dozens of classes, round out the amenities.
In the Area
The inn may be a hole-in-one hit with golfers, but travelers of all types will find plenty to keep them busy in Kohler Village, which traces its roots to the early 1900s and is a tourist destination on its own. More than 20 shops and boutiques specialize in men’s and women’s apparel, antiques, and collectibles; there’s also a food market with a demonstration kitchen. Within easy walking distance is the famous Craverie Chocolatier Café, a French-inspired sweet spot with a dizzying selection of exquisite pastries and chocolates: the Original Buttery Terrapin, a delectable mix of chocolate, pecans, and caramel, is a perennial favorite. Snap up some unique, Midwest-inspired souvenirs, like a locally made apron, at The Wisconsin Trader. Wrap up the day with a pint at the Horse and Plow, a historic tavern that was once the watering hole for Kohler Co. workers.
How to Get There
This was our first visit to Kohler. The American Club was booked, and we ended up at the Inn on Woodlake. The American Club’s website makes it seem like this hotel is right next door to The American Club, but it’s not. It’s not even within walking distance. The hotel does not have any amenities, not even a restaurant or lounge. It has a breakfast room that turns into a bar from 4-10 pm, but there is zero atmosphere. If you want to visit any of the shops, lounges or restaurants at The American Club, you have to take a shuttle. The Inn does have a a strip mall attached with some nice shops, but it’s no different than many other Midwest resort towns. The room we had was decent sized, but it was nothing special for the price.
We stayed at the Inn on Woodlake as part of our golf package, it is a great location with a regular shuttle to all golf courses.
The property is fairly new and is in good condition. In truth it is probably a 4* hotel but it gets and extra star for the amazing shower. The staff at the reception in the morning when we checked in were superb but the afternoon / evening staff were a little less helpful.
There isn’t a lot in walking distance from the hotel but if you are there to play golf it meets the requirements
Of course the bathrooms are decked out with Kohler fixtures. The shower has five heads. Love this but I bet it uses five times the water of a regular shower head. Our room was large and the bed is very comfortable. We had a great view of the lake and outdoor areas. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was ok, not great. But the coffee was excellent!
