With a neighbor like Windsor Castle, the four-star Macdonald Windsor Hotel certainly scores points for location. Sitting sharp on the main parade, the hotel overlooks the castle grounds and down through the winding streets with their quaint shops and tearooms.
The hotel itself is accommodated within an old townhouse. With a classic design and warm colors, the ambiance is both inviting and therapeutic. Think earthy browns paired with rich creams and homely fabrics, like butter-soft leathers and velvet.
As with all Macdonald hotels, the emphasis is on great service, elegant food and the fantastic location. Windsor is close to London, Ascot and Heathrow Airport, and as it’s on the border of Surrey and Hampshire, it makes for detailed exploration of the home counties surrounding London, alongside being a beautiful destination in its own right.
How to Get There
Stayed one night and 2 days for business meetings. Great location & nice staff. A few cleanliness issues that I wouldn’t expect:
1) dirty coffee mugs in meeting lounge area
2) hairband left in my room by the sink
3) horribly stained and dirty bath towel
The hotel looks great, car parking was easy, check in was swift, staff are extremely helpful so why oh why does a allegedly award winning restaurant have such a poor breakfast! All of the eggs were pre cooked!! I truly have no idea why you would pre cook a fried egg to save on time .. the eggs then sat above the cooking area where they were turned to baked rock hard bullets.. so the following day I asked for poached eggs and to my astonishment yet again they were fished out of a tub pre cooked and popped into hot water to warm through! As a result I was served cold eggs as they weren’t cooked long enough... the rest of the breakfast is decidedly lukewarm if you’re not there when it’s put out ... please guys look at your breakfast offering as at £18 a pop it’s really underwhelming and not worth it.....
Nice hotel with some really friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent and all in all the hotel was in good shape, what you expect staying in a MacDonald hotel.
They could do with some new pillows on the beds, not much in the way of support but small issue.
Only real complaint is the parking price, £35 for one night is extreme when paying the rates the hotel has available. You can’t really park anywhere else if you have luggage and I would have expected the cost to be part of our stay.
This hotel is lovely! It was so festive there. But there was a hotel employee, called Jamie!!!! What an absolute star! From the moment we met him, he was so attentive, dealt with our car parking, bought our bags, followed by a bottle of Prosecco....just because he wanted to add to the start of what turned out to be a lovely short break. He went above and beyond and is a real asset to the hotel. He definitely enhanced our enjoyment of the stay.
We stayed here last Friday. It is a really lovely hotel and you cant get a more perfect location in Windsor. All the staff were really friendly and personable, taking time to talk to us and remembering us the next morning on check out. They gave great recommendation for food and drink and dinner was delicious!
An overall great stay, thank you!
