How to Get There
This hotel offers way more than just lodging, it's an experience. I have stayed at so many hotels in Negril, on the beach off the beach but nothing compares to Mirage.
I stayed here for a week, and originally when deciding to stay towards the West End I was looking for privacy and something near the water. Mirage offers that and so much more.
I'll start with the location, situated right in the middle of Rockhouse and Tensing Pen. I would say about 10-15 minutes driving distance from downtown Negril (depending on how fast your driving). There are both supermarkets and places to get food both to the left and right of the hotel which is great because it's less than a 3 minute walk. Of course you can also go to some of the nicer restaurants which again are within walking distance. A+
The hotel itself was amazing, exceeding my expectations. I had the pleasure of staying in room 107 which is on the second level. Upon entering you welcomed by this amazing view of the ocean, a very spacious room, nice bathroom, and very spacious closet space. Inside the closet you have hangers, iron and ironing board, and a functional in room safe. In the room was wifi,a refrigerator, air conditioner, ceiling fan, coffee pot maker, smart tv, nice sized desk, two chairs, a king size bed, a huge PRIVATE balcony that has two wicker chairs and a table (and an awning for lots of shade) and plenty of good lighting. Great water pressure in the shower and sink, never had an issue with hot water. Overall the room was very clean, up to date, and very well managed. A+
The grounds of the hotel was great as well, the infinity pool was nice although I didn't get in, the views on the cliffs were at times breath taking, the property is well kept and clean. Each morning from 8am-10am complimentary breakfast is served which includes fresh fruits, juice/coffee/tea/milk, an array of breads, and eggs upon request. Served in a kitchen area that's really nice. The checkin/checkout process was extremely smooth and quick. Housekeeping daily unless you request not to have any. The staff was very friendly and call you by name. A+
I would most certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.
Upon arriving to Jamaica and during my stay I used Willis Tours and Transportation for my transportation needs. My driver was very knowledgeable, professional, reasonable and was available when ever I needed transportation. The number is 876-833-6285.
This property is located in the West End of Negril, along the cliffs, very close to many shops, bars and restaurants. I arrived from the Airport and was greeted at the front Desk by Reece (I hope I am spelling her name correctly!) and I was checked in within minutes. I had asked for an upper level room with a sea view and was assigned #618 on the second floor. The room and the view were fantastic.
The room is spacious and was spotlessly clean on my arrival. The room is equipped with AC, a ceiling fan, refrigerator, coffee maker, safe, sitting chairs,TV, a large hanging closet, another closet with shelving and a dresser/desk. The private balcony gives the famous Negril view of the sea as well as of the pool area and the rest of the grounds. On the balcony were a bistro type table with two cushioned chairs. The awning in front of the balcony guarantees cool shade all day long. The bathroom was large, with a walk in shower and supplied with many towels and toiletries. Water pressure was strong and there was always plenty of hot water.
The property is kept spotless and the pool water crystal clear. There is a large patio area with many places to lie out in either the sun or the shade. There is also a large open air pavillion with couches, tables and chairs. This area is where the daily breakfasts are served.
While the location and the property were great, what makes Mirage even better are the staff. My every need and request, whether for an extra towel to take on a tour, to local phone calls to extra coffee for my room, was answered instantly and with a genuine smile. Everyone here really wants their guests to have a great stay. The groundskeeper, Bobby was hard at work all day tidying the grounds or working in the gardens. Savanna took care of housekeeping, when she wasn't assisting Reece in some other task. There was also an night security guard, who's name I never got, who kept a diligent watch over the gated property while we slept.
Breakfast each day included an array of fruits (pineapple, mango, papaya, banana etc), pastries, toast, coffee, tea, OJ and fresh made to order eggs. Simply fantastic to start the day with.
Tripadvisor suggests to mention what I liked the least about my stay, honestly I cannot think of anything I would want to change.
All in all, while at Mirage, I felt entirely spoiled! Everyone did all they could to make me feel that way everyday. Big big thanks to all of you wonderful people at Mirage! I cannot wait to return.
This is a beautiful, private property that has been my favorite place to stay in Negril so far. The staff are wonderful, rooms are clean and comfortable and the view from your bed...well, you can't beat it!! I would definitely recommend this for couples looking for a beautiful, private place to stay. My only recommendation would be to avoid the rooms on the side of the building where the pool filters are...they run non-stop and are a bit noisy.
I enjoyed my stay immensely the mirage sent a driver to pick me up he was a professional upon arrival I was greeted by a courteous and welcoming staff. I stayed on the second floor my room was spotless and comfortable with a view that was unreal you can dive off the cliffs or relax in the pool you can walk about an 8 minute walk to ricks cafe and a 5 minute walk to sharks cafe the best jerk in Negril I am a workaholic who gets little sleep but the sound the sound of the-
crashing waves and the relaxing atmosphere I slept like a baby if you are looking to unwind and get life back into perspective this is the place for you. I will definitely go back. Nycgrown50 ,of New York
We spent three nights at Mirage in late August. I understand that this is the lowest of low seasons and we were pretty much the only guests there most of the time. Overall we were very disappointed with our trip.
First, there were some high points worth mentioning. The breakfasts were very good. They had muffins, fruit, good coffee and juices, and hard-boiled eggs and there was always plenty. The manager was very nice and even provided us breakfast for our last day when we were leaving very early in the morning. The rooms are reasonable, if somewhat in need of some repair. The view is fantastic. The pool is very nice.
But, there were problems, some of them so severe that I can't recommend this hotel to anyone.
While the hotel web site does not indicate it, the hotel is marketed as adults only on sites like Expedia and their site promises "an intimate experience – independence, quietude and the utmost privacy." Yet, there were children on the property regularly including three teens who spent hours each day in the pool (they had quite a lot of stamina). They were loud and boisterous and we didn't feel like getting in the pool with them. I don't think they were guests, either, instead being relatives of the staff. There was also construction on site. I understand construction, but why, in a nearly empty hotel, did they choose to put us in the room right next to it?
The hotel promises swimming and snorkeling from the cliffs. However, the ladder to access the sea was removed the entire time we were there. Now, the water was sometimes a bit rough for swimming due to the passing tropical storm, but often it was plenty calm, particularly in the mornings, but there was no safe way to get out of the water. There were steps, but they were very worn, rough, and too dangerous to try to climb. The ONLY reason we booked a hotel on the cliffs was to swim and snorkel and jump in the water by the cliffs. This was impossible.
The hotel has no restaurant, so you are on your own. There are a few places nearby. We went to Negril Escape next door the first night, which is very good, but drastically overpriced. Sharks restaurant down the road is good and reasonably priced. Be sure to head to 3 Dives as well for the best Jerk Chicken.
The WiFi was intermittent at best and did not work with some devices. The safe would not lock sometimes, then on the last day died completely when the batteries ran down. It never did get fixed after that.
We were expecting a quiet, romantic boutique hotel with swimming and snorkeling from the cliffs. Neither turned out to be true. The fact the hotel was nearly empty should not mean we get a second (or third) rate experience.
