How to Get There
I have written reviews before about our great Couples vacations so I don't want to go into every detail but I wanted to write a quick review to highlight two things...
1. The anniversary dinner was AMAZING! The food was so good and there were so many options. I am still dreaming about the dessert buffet. Sadly we didn't stay for the show because we were leaving early the next morning but what the staff set up/prepared and then took down/cleaned up all in one day blew. my. mind. They truly are the best!
2. Please be aware that if you book a beachfront suite it will be like you are sleeping outside sound-wise. They are lovely, charming rooms but you have screens on all four walls that only close with wooden blinds and so you hear everything. I was awakened every morning (sometimes starting at 5 am) by people outside. I swear the first day I thought there was a person in our room because the coughing and the spoon clinking around in a coffee cup was so loud. It was a guy on his balcony across the path from us. Just something to keep in mind.
Our first time at Swept Away, first week of October 2019, and it was everything we expected. Upon arrival at the airport, the check in was very fast, we were offered a beer or pop at the Couples Airport Lounge, while the lounge employees loaded our bags - everything was looked after at this point. 15 mins later onto the mini bus with two other couples, plenty of seating space - it is a one and a half our ride to the resort, depending on the time of day Montego Bay has some heavy rush hour traffic, so be patient. Once at the resort were were quickly escorted to our room, and were seated at the Palms for dinner 20 minutes later.
FOOD - Excellent, Jamaican choices daily, although not enough! Friday had a full Jamaican buffet at Palms, otherwise International foods each day (lasagne/pasta/fish/bacon and eggs, waffles, etc) - lots to choose from. Patois was very good, Feathers had lovely food as well but it is more about the fancy presentation. Sea Grapes near the beach, offers Vegetarian lunch choices and several places make great smoothies.
ROOM - We upgraded to the Atrium room (#1216) with the hammock - as we had a few days of on/off rain, we loved hanging out there. Great location. The service was excellent. Anything you need, let them know and they will have it looked after quickly.
BEACH - Gorgeous, water is a sand bar, no weeds. Security staff on the beach all day, even the Police roll thru a few times a day on a 4 wheeler. Vendors were very polite, everyone takes USD$. If you go off the beach to the next resort, the vendors get quite pushy as there is no security to watch them....my advice, don't bother, not much to see but some local gift shops, stuff you can get at the resort or airport anyway.
SCUBA/SNORKEL - Gear is in great shape, you need to pack a wet suit/rash guard, they provide the rest and have lots of it. Multiple dives a day - As a diver it was refreshing not to pack all that gear. If you are a non diver but want to learn, they have a full offering of excellent PADI courses (those you need to pay for).
The Catamaran cruise leaves each afternoon around 4 pm - like everything else, it's included in your stay. You need to sign up in advance for all the activities.
FITNESS FACILITY - Probably the best I've seen at any resort. Large lap pool, plenty of Tennis courts, Yoga, Fitness room with all sorts of work out equipment. There is a daily program of offerings.
RESORT CATS - as an animal lover it was very sweet to see the very friendly resort cats, they will love you if you pack some cat treats. A few dogs on site too, some belong to the vendors.
*** HINT - Download the Couples App for your mobile device to help you plan while there. Free WiFi is excellent all over the resort.
All the Staff at this resort were wonderful, they have a great sense of humour!! We will be back for sure. Thank You Couples!!
Just returned from this resort after a 9 night stay and it was great, the staff are amazing and very friendly. I will start with the positive points... Glass bottom boat trip with Julien is amazing very knowledgeable of the fish etc, tie dye girls are also amazing and very bubbly and fun. There is lots to do if you so wish to join in. The rooms are typical Caribbean style although the shower area could do with a upgrade, as I don't expect to step out of the shower into a puddle where the floor should be dry so you can dry off.
The grounds are kept lovely but the gardeners and crew always out there cleaning up.
Some of the negatives is if you book a Garden Verandah room you could be very close to the road which is very noisy and can go on till 1am in the morning, we had to pay to move to a ocean front room to get some quiet. There seems to be 3 restaurants offering a le carte every other night for dinner, which for me being a fussy eater limits your choice, would be good if palms stayed buffet and offered a wider selection for us fussy eaters.
The beach vendors are okay they know their limits and there are security guards on the beach to stop any hassle you may get.
Check out is suppose to be 11 o clock but in my opinion would take with a pitch of salt as they only offer a extra hour which no good to man or beast if you have a late pick up as we did, so we checked out at the requested time told front desk when we handed the keys in that the cases were ready to be collected and we would need them we get stuff out, low and behold when we arrived at 2pm to find cases still in the room which to me was a waste of time telling them we could have kept the room till then, as also be aware there is no curtesy room on site you have to cross the road to use the spa showers.
I have since discovered that I left my sunglasses on the glass bottom boat on Wednesday morning trip with Julien, which I didn't realise till I got to the airport to come home, we phoned hotel as no email to lodge the lost we were put through to guest relations to lodge it and as off yet still no fed back from the hotel, I ask has anyone been down to the boat house to see if they are in the hut?? not good enough.
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE GO CHECK JUST IN CASE THEY ARE SITTING DOWN THERE AND NOT BEEN HANDED INTO LOST PORTERTY AND LET ME KNOW, SADLY I'M NOT HOLDING OUT ANY LUCK OF FINDING THEM. WE ARE CONTACTING THE GENERAL MANAGER TO LODGE THIS LOSS.
