Wild coastlines, safaris teeming with ambling elephants and the biggest concentration of leopards in the world, tropical seas with blue whales and spinner dolphins, Sri Lanka is an untamed Eden waiting to be experienced. Once a Dutch colony, the country has also retained its colonial architecture, lush tea plantations and love for cricket. Grown into its own, Colombo is a vibrant city rich in heritage and culture.
All of Sri Lanka’s wonders can be experienced with a stay at the luxe Anantara Kalutara Resort. The resort sits surrounded by water – between the golden sands of Sri Lanka’s coastline and a peaceful lagoon of the Kalu Ganga River. The resort’s design was inspired by the vision of Geoffrey Bawa – Sri Lanka’s most famous architect. Elegant with modern interiors and touches of traditional motifs bring a sense of peace and tranquility to the spectacular property.
Relaxation is the order of the day here. Dream away in your comfortable lagoon-view rooms, take languid dips in the outdoor pool, get a massage at the Anantara Spa or take excursions through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
How to Get There
The hotel is amazing and needs time to explore all its facilities. The pools and beach are magnificent. We received delicious fruits and sweets upon entrring our rooms. For the food, I highly recommend the spice trader restaurant for dinner as it offers many delicious asian dishes; we ate there almost every night. The italian buffet and italian restaurant/bar are okayish but not considered real italian. I awas extremely satisfied with the spa; we tried different massages and enjoyed all of them. The masseuses are from heaven. And don't forget to ask for the herbal iramusu tea after the massage.
Having recently returned from a nine night stay at Anantara we like the majority of people thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this resort, from the beautiful dancing girls welcoming us on arrival to the girls singing on our departure, it was a lovely touch.
Every member of staff are fabulous and went the extra mile to ensure you would not forget this place.
During our stay we used Olu for breakfast and we were looked after exceptionally by Fazil and his team. Fazil took so much pride in his role of making sure guests requirements were meet.
In the evenings we ate at Spice Traders and the Italian restaurant and found the menu varied and the food excellent. The only point I would make is that if you are on half board you receive a limited menu to choose from, however if you ask for the A la carte menu you receive a credit of around 6,200 rupees which is more than enough to cover dinner and it gives more choice, but this is not offered you must ask!
We also enjoyed the new beach facility and the new sun loungers that are provide. This was something that was relatively quiet however I imagine this will become more popular in time as the hotel develop this facility over the coming months. A team of beach lads are on hand should you need drinks, with cold towels supplied and a nice touch of fruit and sun cream.
Happy hour was also very good value, albeit a limited menu at reduced prices with an excellent Sri Lankan gin that was most enjoyable.
As I said earlier all the staff are fabulous, however special thanks to Piyakaru who looked after our room, Fazil the restaurant manager and Piyona who worked in Spice and Obu .
I would not hesitate to return to this resort.
Thank you Anantara, is was fabulous
Anantara kalutara resort offers a particular kindness from the staff. I drank the best chai (masala tea) cooked from the Indian chef of the restaurant inside the resort.
I want to thank Madawa Ragana (restaurant staff) for his courteousness
Beautiful setting of the property with access to both the river and the sea. Lovely gardens with 2 pools. I was upgraded to an oceanview suite room which was a lovely surprise! It was just a one night stay so I'll definitely be back for a longer stay.
Back from our stay at Anantara Kalutara from 4 to 12 March 2019.
We wouldn’t have enough space to describe our wonderful and unforgettable holiday in such place.
We knew we had booked a very nice hotel, we didn’t expect it to be so pleasant.
Staff was so helpful and smiling,
Food is various and fine,
The service did overcome our expectations.
Wanted some specific menu for your kid ? the chef made it.
Wanted to do some excursions ? the reception planned everything for you.
You forgot things in your luggage ? You will find it in your room already.
As said, I have no bad review. If you ever hesitate to book with them, please just go ahead. You will not regret it. Indeed we hope to come back next year !
