In the Area
The hotel sits right along Colombo’s famous Galle Face Green, an oceanside promenade laid out by governor Sir Henry Ward in 1857, when Sri Lanka was under British rule. Today the busy green space is a popular spot for walkers, cricket players, kite flyers and street food vendors. Settle down at night to watch the sunset while feasting on the offerings from the stalls, or stroll down to the colonial-era Galle Face Hotel for a cocktail on the iconic veranda. When you’re ready to explore, Colombo’s major tourist sights, as well as shopping malls and the ritzy residential enclave of Cinnamon Gardens, are just a tuk-tuk ride away. Find a well-curated selection of original home goods and colonial knickknacks at Paradise Road Studio. Gambling is legal in Colombo for foreign passport holders, and two casinos, the MGM and Bellagio (no relation to the Las Vegas casino of the same name), are within easy reach.
How to Get There
Stayed here in a Club Room for 2 nights en route to the Maldives. The hard product needs urgent assistance. The room was tired; fittings are outdated, paint is peeling and bathroom finishes show signs of requiring not just maintenance, but total replacement.
By Taj standards, F&B was amateurish. Pasta ordered from room service was borderline inedible. It was late at night and we had hungry kids after a flight, or else we would have sent it back. Breakfast was OK; dinner buffet though plentiful in quantity was generic.
The saving grace was the room size, which was extremely comfortable for our family of 4. Nothing short of a complete gut renovation of this property would induce me to stay here again.
We had a great time at Taj , Nawarathna restaurant. It was a swim in nostalgia of memories while listening to live tabla music and eating India cuisine. Charuka , Niwanka , Lasantha and Aruna gave great service. Thank you.
Good and satisfactory stay. The reception staff and the restuarant staff were very helpful and efficient in their service. The rooms are satisfactory and comfortable. Bedspreads can be cleaned well. Overall it was satisfactory.
