In the Area
The hotel sits right along Colombo’s famous Galle Face Green, an oceanside promenade laid out by governor Sir Henry Ward in 1857, when Sri Lanka was under British rule. Today the busy green space is a popular spot for walkers, cricket players, kite flyers and street food vendors. Settle down at night to watch the sunset while feasting on the offerings from the stalls, or stroll down to the colonial-era Galle Face Hotel for a cocktail on the iconic veranda. When you’re ready to explore, Colombo’s major tourist sights, as well as shopping malls and the ritzy residential enclave of Cinnamon Gardens, are just a tuk-tuk ride away. Find a well-curated selection of original home goods and colonial knickknacks at Paradise Road Studio. Gambling is legal in Colombo for foreign passport holders, and two casinos, the MGM and Bellagio (no relation to the Las Vegas casino of the same name), are within easy reach.
How to Get There
Went for Japanese here and the food was great ... Our experience got enriched coz of Vipula ! We went couple of weeks back and they were not serving the full menu , but Vipula told me he will call me when they are doing the full menu and he DID ... great service ... ????
Happy to say YUMI is back with their fantastic full Japanese menu. Grab hold of Vipula who will take care of you with his warm smile and super service. Do try the fried soft shell crab with a nice glass of wine.
We have enjoyed our stay so far at the Taj Samudra at Colombo. We had a delightful dinner at the Golden Dragon and ate the most amazing chilli pepper crab, prawn Hargao and lotus roots stir fry made by Chef Chintan. At breakfast we were pampered by Nilanka and his team Morin and Paul. Loved the wood apple juice every morning. The views from the room is breathtaking. The staff is alert and helpful.
Thanks to GM Pankaj Sampat, and his able management we will surely come back soon.
