In the Area
The hotel sits right along Colombo’s famous Galle Face Green, an oceanside promenade laid out by governor Sir Henry Ward in 1857, when Sri Lanka was under British rule. Today the busy green space is a popular spot for walkers, cricket players, kite flyers and street food vendors. Settle down at night to watch the sunset while feasting on the offerings from the stalls, or stroll down to the colonial-era Galle Face Hotel for a cocktail on the iconic veranda. When you’re ready to explore, Colombo’s major tourist sights, as well as shopping malls and the ritzy residential enclave of Cinnamon Gardens, are just a tuk-tuk ride away. Find a well-curated selection of original home goods and colonial knickknacks at Paradise Road Studio. Gambling is legal in Colombo for foreign passport holders, and two casinos, the MGM and Bellagio (no relation to the Las Vegas casino of the same name), are within easy reach.
How to Get There
Very well located property facing the gale. Liked everything about this place. The staff is curtious, the service is good and prompt.Had buffet breakfast and dinner, they were both good with a good variety. Bonus being the water in the room is free.
We enjoyed our morning swim by the pool and the friendly and very helpful assistance by Jaya, made us have a real holiday feel.
The temperature and the ph level was something very well maintained and not something you can find in other hotels. I highly recommend if you are a big fan of less chemicals in a pool.
Big thank you to Jaya for our poolside assistance! 5 star service!
I can say with some conviction that I am a seasoned traveller, barely a week goes by when I do not spend a night in a hotel.
The Taj is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
Why? The hotel is immaculate, attention to the smallest detail is covered, for example the lovely smell of Jasmine that wafts around the hotel.
The staff are tremendous, such lovely people, a credit to the hotel.
Our room was fabulous, with ocean views, very comfortable and spacious.
Finally the food was excellent, each of the restaurants we went into were superb, the buffet breakfast and dinner in Ports of Call was truly fabulous. If you are heading to Colombo, I urge you to try the Taj, it really is fabulous.
Has to be hands down the best hotel in Colombo. Great rooms, amazing service and wonderful staff. Rooms are spacious and great views. I stayed with my family and there was special care taken of our young children. Its class and ambience stand apart.
Our family stayed at the Taj for two days. Our room was on the club floor, so we had access to the club lounge for snacks and refreshments. The service at the Taj is second to none. The hotel is most suitable for those on a business trip or couples, not ideal for small families with children. Ms Dinusha and Ms Navranjali did their level best to ensure we had enjoyed our stay, especially our two year old son. The team payed special attention to our son, and surprised us with a birthday cake for him, along with several gifts. What the hotel lacks in terms of facilities for children, makes up in quality of service. The hotel offered babysitting service, which was ideal for us as my wife and I wanted to enjoy our lunch at the Ministry of Crab, which was a great experience. The breakfast buffet at the Taj is simply amazing, and would definitely give Four Seasons Hotel a run for their money. We would definitely stay at this hotel again once our son is a bit older. Overall a pleasant stay, with great service.
