How to Get There
Went to Tsala for two nights prior to Gorah Elephant Camp. The standards set at Hunter Hotels are exceptional.
Accommodation, Food and service all 5 star and we will certainly return next time we are in South Africa.
Thank you so much for making our stay so memorable.
Service is so incredible from the minute you step into this establishment.
It's also available around the clock.
No matter how beautiful a place or the service is, I hardly feel like going back to it in my travels. Tsala Treetop Lodge has certainly changed that one for me.
I would go back in a heartbeat. Pity we can't always be on holiday.
Listen, do yourself and perhaps your loved one too, a great favour, book yourself in this place. Their restaurant also dishes out outstanding food.
There's another restaurant not far from them (a short walk away) called Zinzi, do go there as well.
We weren't booked into Tsala. We were booked into Hunter's Country Lodge, but as soon as we arrived there, we knew it wasn't for us. The manager at Hunter's was happy to offer us a room at Tsala and when we arrived (its in the same grounds), Karin the manager was ready to greet us. What a beautiful place. I loved the rooms with their beautiful outlook across the forest. Private infinity plunge pool and comfortable sun beds on one deck and a table and chairs on another. Comfortable sitting room with big squashy chairs, woodburner (which we needed as it was cold), fully stocked mini bar and lots of goodies to eat. A very comfortable bedroom and lovely bathroom. Karin was probably the best manager I have ever come across; just there at the right time with ideas of what to do and where to go and offers of a nice cup of tea and cake or a glass of wine. All of the other staff are genuine and friendly and all seem happy to be working there. There are 4 restaurants on the site. Fine dining and light bites at Hunters; Zinzi the Italian in it's own building (very tasteful) and Tsala's own restaurant which is excellent. Breakfast too was a delight. There are lots of places to sit and relax and beautiful gardens to walk around if you feel so inclined. On our last day, my washing disappeared and turned up again all washed and dried without my even asking. There are one or two things that need a bit of updating but, to be honest, it's pretty much perfect as it is!!
It's hard to put perfection in to words. This really was one of the most beautiful places we've ever had the fortune to stay at. Photos really and truly do not do Tsala justice, and all photos we saw prior to arriving were just incredible. The lodge itself was decadently designed with the most meticulous attention to detail.
We were taken to our lodge which really was out of this world. An actual treetop lodge with a plunge pool, terrace balcony, log burning stove, luxurious free standing oval bath, out door private shower and fantastic sized rooms (lounge, bedroom and bathroom)! We were welcomed with a wonderful handwritten note and from then on we just relaxed in a perfect tranquil environment. Every night after returning from dinner, we came back to the bed being turned down and some fudges/chocolates and further 'quoted' bedtime notes/poems which again, was such a lovely touch.
We had dinners in the main Treetop restaurant which had an incredible selection of local wines and traditional foods (our menus were also personalised with our names on). We also ate at Zinzi's which is another fabulous restaurant on the estate. Both really were special including the service, knowledge and attention to detail. Tip: be sure to book Zinzi's prior to arrival.
Breakfast was excellent, in particular the homemade granola which I'm desperate to have again. It was all the more amusing having breakfast and watching monkeys watching us eat and being playful.
Karin, the general manager, was one of the nicest, warmest and caring people we've ever met who was on hand our entire stay and made us feel at home. After all, it's a very intimate property and you really are made to feel like it's a home away from home. I got quite burnt on one of our days visiting an elephant sanctuary and Karin noticed on our return and kindly gave me a burn remedy which really helped.
All in all, this was one of the greatest places we've ever stayed at and we constantly look back at photos and dream to return again one day.
The room was great, the plunge pool clean and the food at the Tree Tops was fantastic. You really are surrounded by trees and it instils in you a sense of charm and tranquillity. we ate in the Treetop restaurant on the first night and we were well looked after by the staff and general manager. the food was lovely and I was impressed by the excellent choice of local wine, no European or foreign wine is served as to by quite honest the local wine takes a lot to beat!! We ate in their other restaurant Zinzi the second night and I have to say it was not all it was made out to be. The service was nowhere near as good and the food was well below the standard we had received the night before. Breakfast was good and we were advised as to which local attractions we might want to visit and they were both great so thank you for that.
