How to Get There
This hotel is no doubt an establishment that attracts customers who want the best, but we found the place a little cold, distant and formulaic. Staff were friendly but rehearsed. A lot of hanging about waiting to be approached and chatting amongst themselves.
We advised the hotel about our food intolerances and yet the menu was not adjusted, it was left up to us to inform the waiting staff and amend the standard dishes. This was disappointing as they have so few rooms they should be on top of this. Even between lunch and dinner service we had to reiterate what we could and could not eat. This is in direct contrast to Birkenhead house in Hermanus whose Chef baked us our own yeast free bread or in Delaire Graff (Stellenbosch) who gave us a bespoke menu without asking.
Even the driver that we had for the day didn’t say a single word to us when dropping, collecting and driving us to a second Winery- it’s the kind of customer service that is aloof and whilst that will suit many returning customers it is not our cup of tea and perhaps outdated.
On a positive, our Spa experience was fantastic and wine cellar impressive.
We loved our stays at Delaire Graff (Stellenbosch), Birkenhead house (Hermanus) and Akademie in Franschhoek but agreed this was our least memorable stay. Too formulaic.
It's so good i return every year.I love coming back to a warm welcome by all the staff. There is nowhere nicer in Africa for comfort, food and luxury.Sunshine all the way from first thing in the morning until after dark.
My Wife and I ended our most amazing trip to South Africa at the Ellerman House. The property is magnificent. We stayed in the Spa Pool suite . . . truly wonderful. Every aspect of our stay was perfect. The grounds, the incredible staff, amenities beyond our expectations . . . all made for an stay we will not soon forget. The Ellerman House sets a standard that we had not previously experience in a travels to date . . . we hope to revisit.
One of our favorite "Houses" we have ever stayed at. Incredible grounds, coupled with incredible staff, incredible amenities, and overall incredible experience. We left two days ago, and we've been dying to go back ever since!
Brilliant service.....a hotel you simply cannot fault....certainly the very best in South Africa we have visited....a home from home....and as for the paintings and art gallery.......simply cannot wait to revisit again.
