How to Get There
Imagine my surprise checking in on a cold February night, dodging the plowed snow outside, when I see tons of people in the lobby heading toward the indoor swimming pool! Excluding the pool, this is a cookie-cutter Marriott - comfortable bed, nice TV, too small bathroom (if you are taller than 5'6'' you won't be able to squeeze under the shower head). Check in wait was too long for a slow night, other than that service was friendly. Would stay again if price was right
Why memorable? Because i didnt expect to be told that i had a 'poolside room' when there is snow on the ground, it is freezing cold and the middle of winter in New York City, but then i find that the swimming pool is like the center piece of the whole hotel - like the whole thing is built around a swimming pool which is quite weird, it feels more like an indoor Miami (and not in a good way) than it does anything else, there are cabanas, and outdoor loungers and rattan furniture, all the things you would expect in La Jolla or Florida but it is in Tarrytown New York.
Forgettable? - because despite the somewhat unique swimming pool thing (the pool is a little too small to really swim in mind you), this is fundamentally a fairly standard marriott with all the boring predictability of such a place. The same cramped little bathroom (although in this hotel it is particularly cramped), the same toiletries, the same slightly try hard restaurant - this one is called Copper Mill or something, it has a burger, crispy calamari, ceasar salad, chicken and white fish - nothing different, different words but the same boring formula underneath, a little video show up when you turn on the tv, it talks about how Marriott is going to help you travel brilliantly and explore, but actually all you get is a formula, there is no exploring, there is lipstick on a pig.
The room itself is fine, good entertainment through the tv, comfortable bed, smells of chlorine because you are right next to a swimming pool - so you feel like you might be sleeping in the local sports center, but you cant complain - instead of a chair, or couch, you have a strange bench which looks a bit like an exercise bench. The bathroom is too small.
There is no adventure, no exploring here, There is a Marriott hotel built around a rather small and rather sad little swimming pool. Travel brilliantly? It just made me want to go home. Oh well.
Stayed 2 nights with my parents and little one to celebrate their retirement. Staff was great. Coopers Mill restaurant located in the lobby was delicious. My parents took advantage of the spa and raved about it. Only reasons why I have 4 out of 5 stars is because a couple of things were a little inconvenient. To get to a bathroom from the pool, you have to go through the lobby which is freezing during the winter months or go downstairs to the work out room but then get locked out of the pool area. I had to travel up the elevator to go back to the pool( or u can rent a more expensive room by the pool to avoid this problem). If you want to get some drinks or coffee while at the pool, you have to awkwardly go to Cooper's bar area and order it while dripping in your bathing suit and diner's stare at you making puddles in the restaurant..Also, the reason I brought my father specifically here was to take advantage of the Jacuzzi. Unfortunately, it was too hot to get in and after he got nauseous and several guests made complaints to the staff, it went unresolved and we never got to enjoy it.
Still, it was a nice stay with the family. Beds and pillows were very comfy.
I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world and this one rates very highly. Staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was big, comfortable, and well appointed. Lots of places to charge devices, including USB ports by the bed. The bed was comfortable, the water pressure and temp were very good. Only issue to note is the signage to get to my room sent me 3/4 of the way around the (very large) floor. Minor point, for sure.
I’ll stay here again for sure.
Only had one night stay on a flight layover. Check in was quick. My room was on the far side of the hotel, which was nice and quiet.
We ate breakfast on the Executive Floor. Small buffet with good selections of food. And most importantly, good coffee.
Quick stay. Would definitely return on the next flight.
