How to Get There
This was not my first visit to this hotel. It has always been reliable place to stay. On May 14th, I stopped here after driving 12 hours. I did not have a reservation and crossed my fingers. The clerk advised me that they were fully booked. She then attempted to find me a room at other hotels in the area. She was then advised that a room had just been made available. I grabbed it immediately and thanked her profusely. She was great. However, when we got to the room, it appeared to not have been cleaned. There were new towels and the sheets appeared clean. The carpet was in need of vacuuming. The bathroom counter was dirty and had water spots. One of the bathroom vanity lights was out. There weren't any glasses. The only chair was the desk chair. We brought one in from the pool area. The a/c was off. When we turned it on, it sounded like a freight train. Luckily, the noise abated after 30 minutes. When we asked for ice, we were advised that we had to get it from the restaurant next door. We hadn't eaten so we ordered off their menu. We were told that we could come pick up the food or we would be charged $5.00 to have it delivered to our room. The food offerings were minimal. The pizza was like cardboard and inedible. The chicken sandwich was okay. On a positive note the beds were comfortable. Hopefully, this was an anomaly.
I stayed here a single night on business. This hotel is clean and staff was friendly. It is an older feeling hotel, it has been updated but is dark feeling inside. Restaurants attached are very good. I would recommend Coopers Mill, good food and good service.
After reading up on some of the reviews, I was setting myself up for disappointment. Old, tired hotel. Mediocre service. Expensive. The verdict? Nonsense. The staff was great, our rate was fair and our room was modern, comfortable and offered pluses such as quality body care products (Thann) and a TV with HBO Go and Netflix. The bed was super comfy. The drawbacks: Hall noise was noticeable and the W/C was modern but still the original 1970s size. The elevator is controlled by a center button (not on the elevator car). But the pluses: Cooper’s Mill is good for a pint and breakfast. The indoor pool is great for kids. Lobby area with Gas fireplace great for social gathering or work on a laptop. Free parking and no resort fee. Five minutes from good food and you can walk to Stop and Shop. Also, Metro North is 10-minutes away.
I was perfectly pleased with my three-night stay.
Ok — if I was picky I’d say get in-room Keurig already! But free coffee outside of restaurant a better option.
Great job to all in grand ballroom E for the Stern Bar Mitzvah too.
Exceptionally Rude Management. I asked kindly for an upgrade as a platinum member after seeing more than 5 suites available. The Marriott terms state that the benefits of being a loyal platinum member is receiving the "best available upgrade." They stated nothing else was available when checking in and gave us a tiny guest room by the pool that was full of strong chlorine smell. I asked on the mobile chat if there was any room away from the pool, and the manager stated that all of a sudden a suite was now available and that he would be placing us in there. We were shocked, and happy to hear that a suite had now become available!
I went down to the front desk to have the keys changed only to be greeted with absolute disrespect and rudeness. The front desk agent stated that the manager, Zachary, wanted to make it clear that upgrades are not given here and that this would be the only exception and last time. He repeated it a few times with anger in his voice and said it in the presence of all the staff and people checking in. I replied that I never asked for a suite upgrade except for the first time checking in. After they stated none were available, I accepted that. I only asked for a different room away from the strong chlorine smell. He didn't listen to a thing I said, but again repeated that the manager, Zachary, had instructed him to deliver this message, and if I had any issues, to take it up with Zachary.
That level of disrespect is uncalled for. There is absolutely no regard for member status loyalty. Because my wife encouraged me to, I called the Marriott Platinum line who took care of the situation and made sure to keep them accountable. I advise everyone who experiences the same to reach out to Marriott support. I will never book here again. Unfortunately, although it was this hotel that disrespected us and made us feel unwelcome, my overall view of Marriott has changed for the worse.
I was happily surprised by our recent stay at the Westchester Marriott. We were there for a large family reunion and the room rates were extremely reasonable. The hotel far exceeded my expectations.
Our rooms were beautifully decorated and furnished and quite soothing. Without exception, the hotel staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful (quite a feat in this day and age!). The food at the Cooper's Mill restaurant was really good and decently priced.
The banquet food at the family union dinner itself was mediocre and some of it just plain odd (mashed turnips that tasted like a dessert).
But we had a lovely weekend. I would return.
