How to Get There
This was our first visit to Snowshoe, and the Soaring Eagle Lodge was fantastic - you really can't beat the convenience and it was a great experience overall with only a couple minor "cons." We checked in on Friday at Mountain Top Check In, where they were also able to print our lift tickets we had ordered online. We then pulled into the underground parking garage and walked 25 yards to the elevators up to our room. They had luggage carts available if you wanted to use those.
Our room was well-furnished and clean, with lots of extra coffee stocked. Their ski lockers are great, and out the door you have maybe 10 yards to walk before you can put on your skis. The restaurant and bar on the 1st floor was decent -- OK food and very fast service, and wonderfully convenient. They have 3 hot tubs and a fitness room that nobody seemed to be using.
Our first ski day was rainy, and it was great to have a laundry room on the ground level with 4 great dryers to dry our ski jackets and pants for $1.00 (and a change machine right there as well). The concierge was helpful and the shuttle came right to the lobby to take us down to Snowshoe Village.
A couple minor things just to be aware of - they don't come to clean your room or exchange towels during your stay. That said, Housekeeping was very nice when I stopped them in the hallway and asked for an extra bar of soap and a fresh set of sheets for the pull-out bed. The pull-out mattress was quite uncomfortable in the living room, so my son just slept on the couch the 2nd night, which worked fine. And as other reviewers have commented, you can definitely hear the people above you -- so if you are sensitive to noise, I definitely recommend a 4th-level unit. But all in all, Soaring Eagle was fantastic and we would definitely stay there again.
I’ve stayed in many. Loggers Run, Powdermonkey, The Timbers, and here. This has been the best dollar to good experience ratio so far. It’s clean, classy, and secure. It is quiet at night and everyone keeps to themselves. Perfect. The teens enjoyed evening soaks in the hot tub and workouts in the fitness room. It’s has the feel of a “dedicated skiers” location. Everyone is up early to ski hard and everyone seems to come home, cook, and go to bed. You get a private feel even though you have neighbors. The condos are individually owned so it may vary what you get but ours was perfectly stocked with good appliances, cooking tools, and linens. Location second to none. I would definitely repeat my stay here.
We visited Snowshoe in Feb 2018. It was a busy holiday weekend but it was a wonderful family ski trip. Soaring eagle is a hotel that has privately owned units that are rented out. We reserved this unit online. The location is at the top of the mountain which give you great vistas to marvel at. The lobby of the building is beautiful. They have 2 huge fireplaces ins hearth room that overlooks the valley. Some nights they have live music playing. Also a wine bar in the hearth room. The sauna and hot tubs are a must visit when coming right off the slopes. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely return here next year.
The condo was slopside next to the soaring eagle lift. It is a good place to go out to ski from. You can rent your skis at top of the world right next door. There is a good restaurant downstairs. It is not near the village so if you plan on going there you will need to take the bus. The bus runs regularly but it is not very comfortable. The condo has outdoor jacuzzis and a sauna downstairs. We rented a three bedroom for the family that was clean and comfortable (305). We would recommend this place but remember you are removed from the village. Also cell coverage for at&t wasn’t available there but in the village it was
My family rented 3 condos (#410, #208, #314) for 7 nights over NYE. Staff is friendly. Condo amenities decent, ski in/ski out very good. Cleaning horrible. We checked in with a lot of luggage and food to cook throughout the week. After a 10 hour drive we arrived to the condo and it had NOT been cleaned. They had to store our 4 luggage carts stacked with food, luggage, coolers for a couple hours to get a crew in since it was late and a blizzard was in play.
Fast forward to Wednesday when the next cleaning is to take place. Yes, they only change out towels 2x/week. There is a washer/dryer to do it yourself as needed. After a long day of skiing the condo had not been cleaned. We even pulled the sheets off and stacked all towels to make sure all got done. Once again we had to wait. We went to hot tub with the family. We got back to a cleaning crew at 5p and now we need to hit showers to meet with family for dinner plans. We showered with cleaning crew present. Yuck.
During dinner I found out that my parents and wife’s parents condos were also not cleaned.
There is a systemic and chronic issue with the cleaning of condos at Soaring Eagle at Snowshoe. We were considering buying a place and renting but confidence level is too low and the investment too risky.
If you’re and owner I recommend getting immediately informed and involved.
All in all it is a fun location for families. I’m not a clean freak but this didn’t hit the basics and spending >$10,000 for their week for 3 condos and lift tickets means I have an expectation for the resort to stay on point.
