One night stay

I stayed for one night prior to attending a funeral. I am a nervous traveller but the staff made me feel very much at ease. The bar food was lovely with a good choice . Breakfast was very nice, all good quality products. The only negative I have was the bed was very soft and probably could do with a new mattress. Overall very good value.

Stayed here with four other work colleagues for a Christmas get together and to attend the Murder mystery night £39 a head along with the five double rooms. My Room was nice (125) and hotel in a nice setting. Some of my colleagues rooms were not as comfortable but they will write their own reviews.
Staff were friendly on arrival at check in and in the main bar where we had drinks before dinner. When we went to the meal another party had sat incorrectly at our table and there was not enough chairs for us. We were told to wait outside the room while a place was set and a chair added. We missed the first act and were squeezed into a table that may be able to accommodate ten when set for ten but the five women already incorrectly sat at our table had spread themselves out and had around 60-70% of the space and staff did not ask them to move we were told the space issue would be resolved later it wasn’t. The duty manager Jamie then brought and served a bottle of Prosecco to the ladies incorrectly sat at our table to apologise for the disruption caused to them this was embarrassing as it was not our fault and made us feel even more awkward. We were then given a bottle of Prosecco to share between the five of us as a sorry too. However we had missed the first act and didn’t know what was going on and no one updated us. Due to this we were never able to grasp exactly what we needed to do and had missed the explanation of the evening. The £195 we had spent for this experience feels a bit unfair as we missed a third of it through no fault of our own. We raised it at the time we raised it the following morning via email and in person to the duty manager Pat and we were told this would be responded to. The response said sorry and if you come and stay again we will look after you.

I think it was bad luck but opportunity was there for hotel to really say sorry and I think seeing as we missed the first act and therefore weren’t able to realise the experience should have given a partial refund but they obviously felt that this was not the case.
The meal was quite poor a slice of turkey and one roast potato and one very strange green ball of stuffing was poor as was the winter fruit salad which was canned fruit without a doubt.
Breakfast was ok served in rooms joined together that is a bit of a weird layout the older waitress very friendly and a younger blonde girl with glasses very truculent and not helpful. Pastries were nice.
I would not stay here again based on this experience which is a shame as I had thought this would have been an alternative to Birmingham where my team meet and stay over regularly but I think you can judge a good establishment by how they put things right and so found the whole thing very underwhelming and disappointing and have shared all of these views with hotel and Best Western.

Hotel and staff are lovely.
Breakfast amazing.
Didn't have dinner at hotel as they were fully booked.

However, the room had its slight faults....shower screen wasn't fitted very well, so unfortunately the bathroom floor ended up as a swimming pool-fortunately we were not sharing with children.
Bed wasn't that comfy and even though the heater was on the room itself was cold.

Oh and the curtain fell down when we tried to pull it across! Of which we did fix ourselves by re-hooking it back onto the curtain rings.

Didn't use spa or gym as it was only an overnight stay and didn't really have time to explore the hotel.

Murder Mystery Dinner

Traveled up to my hometown of Sutton Coldfield to meet with some friends for a birthday and had a great time trying to solve a murder! (no spoilers! sorry!)

I work in hospitality myself and I must say that all the staff that I encountered were very friendly and helpful. Very attentive to the needs of the function.

The meal was very good however I wasn't so sure about the range of options on the menu at first, although I appreciate that we were quite a young group (avg age ~28).

The Ham Hock Terrine was well seasoned and just the right portion for a starter and the Black Forest Cheesecake was amazing - Just a shame there wasn't more of it.

The Traditional Christmas Turkey, while very good was what you would expect and it may have been just me, but it was a tad on the dry side but not much.

The entertainment for the evening was great - very funny and friendly cast.

Didn't stay the night at the hotel but will aim to if I'm ever back in the area.
