Wonderful Experience
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I and two other couples recently spent three nights at this beautiful hotel. I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed it! The location is perfect, right on the canal, and an easy walk to the town center. Our room was beautiful - it had an old-fashioned, elegant charm, but had been updated. The bed was very comfortable, the room spacious, and the bathroom was gleaming and modern. Breakfast in the lovely dining room was delicious and plentiful. I did not get the name of our server, but she was delightful.
Most importantly, we were given impeccable service by Levan (sp?). He was so gracious and helpful in assisting us with dinner reservations, drinks in the salon, and even parking and luggage assistance.
Although the hotel is undergoing a renovation, we were not impacted by the ongoing work, and I'm sure that it will be even more beautiful when the work is completed.

Great Location and Service, but that's it

This hotel had a great location to city center, easy walk in both directions to explore Bruges. The facade is beautiful, the lobby appears ornate and leads you to believe the rooms will be just the same. But it's not the case. The staff are very friendly and sweet. Check in was a breeze, they held my bags, since I arrived early, oriented me and allowed me to freshen up before my room was ready. The room itself was in desperate need of some serious TLC. The carpeting was so worn, I wore airplane slippers in the room. The drapes so dusty... you had to wash your hands after drawing them open or closed. The bathroom was OK, more of a 2 or 3 star hotel. The tub is a high climb over and the plexiglass partition was already off the seams so that water splashed everywhere. There was no in room safe as was advertised. There was no coffee tea set up either. I was told to call down for it which I did. Then waited 30 minutes before I went down to retrieve it myself. The second morning I didn't even call. Just went down to get it myself. The only saving grace was the bed, not the dingy canopy overhead, but that the bed was comfortable and sheets were clean. Please read the reviews before booking. I was prepared for getting either a great room or a less than desirable one. I made the best of the situation for such a short stay. The hotel had changed ownership 2 weeks before my trip and it might be a much needed change for what could be a charming boutique hotel. I hate having to write this review, I really do.

Currently being renovated by new owner

Although the original hotel was a little tired it did not lack in charm. The new owner is upgrading but has said he is keeping many of the original features. Two friends, we spent three nights in May 2019 each in our single rooms and had a lovely stay at Die Swaene. The hotel staff are WONDERFUL. Marijke has manned the reception for
30 years on 1st July this year and is an absolute credit to the hotel. She is always bright and cheerful whatever the weather. There is an efficient lift so it doesn't matter which floor you are on. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of storage space. The linen is crisp and white with snuggly bathrobes available. Some of the bathrooms have baths but are all being upgraded to have modern, walk in showers in the future. A new pool and sauna are currently being installed. The variety of food available for breakfast is beautifully presented and if you need anything specific the cook staff will do their utmost to help. There is not a restaurant on site but there are many in the local vicinity so it's not a problem. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. If you have never been to Brugge before Die Swaene is perfectly located for you to explore.
Thank you Marijke and all the staff for a wonderful stay - we will be back.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff!

Wow, what a hotel, what a view!! My partner actually cried when we entered the room (46) It was beautifully appointed and with breathtaking views and only 2 minutes walk from the centre of town. The staff were incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We actually met the owner who proudly showed us the developments to the swimming pool and the new room. The only minor niggles.....no hot drink facilities in the room and a number of the power points and lights not working. However, this will certainly be a first choice for another visit. Loved it!!
