How to Get There
We stayed in this hotel in September 2017 and liked it so well we went back in September 2018. The room was lovely, spacious, comfortable with two chairs for reading, though the bed was a bit hard. Our canal view was magnificent and we were a five minute walk to our favorite breakfast place. In the foyer are photos of some of their famous guests. We had already seen In Bruges, but we had to research Ray Winstone and his daughter to find Hot Potato (which actually had a scene filmed in the hotel.) The hotel is centrally located, and for being listed in Small Luxury Hotels of the World it was reasonably priced.
We stayed here over August Bank Holiday - it was our sons 40th and we met him there to give him a special treat - we hadn't met up for 2 years so were just very pleased to be there - and the hotel and its staff did not disappoint us .
The hotel has the best location - good out look with the canal to the front - cross a small road - go over the little bridge and less than a minutes walk to the centre of Bruges .
Hotel staff were the best - couldn't fault them xx and the breakfast was fit for Kings.I really loved the toiletries which were refreshed every day .
Bruges is a friendly pretty city to visit and we will go again in the future .
If there was a negative then I would agree with others that the hotel needs a little updating - and yes the pool was very small - but it didn't stop a group of children really enjoying it - however I would still recommend this hotel .
Thanks to all - we really enjoyed our stay x
In all honesty, there's nothing particularly wrong with this hotel and if it was a 3* star hotel then it would be a 5* review but the hotel doesn't quite live up to 4* standards or other small luxury hotel groups I've stayed in before.
The reception staff are nice, enough. The room is nice, enough (bed is super comfy but then things like the shower head in the bath being at such an angle it can only be used sat down), the breakfast is nice, enough... you get the gist. For the price you're paying you expect a certain level that you just don't get.
I think they're riding on the back of the SLH name instead of living up to it.
However I would love to mention the lady at breakfast. She was charming, attentive and delivered an exceptional service.
We had a great stay at the De Tuilerieen. Beautiful place, spacious rooms, great service. The breakfast was also very good. One more satisfying SLH hotel experience.
Not having one, the front desk persons were very good with restaurant recommendations.
Spent 3 nights there.
Had a great welcome from Joshua when we arrived and went to the reception.
We booked an executive room, however the room was very basic. Executive is the 2nd category after comfort and the room we had didn't even make us feel comfortable. There was nothing in the room apart from 3 chairs, a desk stuck to the wall with very low ceiling, a bed occupying most of the room making it difficult to walk around given the low ceilings, a small round table, a couple of desk lamps and 4 badly chosen small frames hung above the bed.
Housekeeping is poor, making the bed consists of simply putting the bed cover on top, leaving untidy bedsheets underneath full of hair. The bed cover has a very cheap look with lots of white threads coming out underneath making it look like white hair are stuck all over it. No concept of sweeping or hoovering the floor.
Bathroom is even more basic with cheap white tiling, no facilities to put shower accessories e.g. shower gel in the shower cabin.
Feels like they've decorated this room in a rush and are welcoming people asking to pay for a 4 star experience in a small luxury hotel that doesn't feel like one.
Swimming pool is tiny, heated to 29 degrees, but feels a lot less.
Overall we feel like we didn't get the right value for the money we spent, and would have probably have the same or a better experience in an ibis hotel!
