Affordable, family-friendly beach resort on Grace Bay with three pools and a popular open-air restaurant
Located on award-winning Grace Bay Beach, this affordable resort encompasses six three-story buildings that house 114 plantation-style suites with views of the manicured grounds, tropical flowers and gardens. Check in with the friendly staff at the open-air reception desk, drop your bags in your room and sip that welcome rum punch on a beach lounger shaded by a palapa, and you’ll see just how easy it is to adjust to “island time” at the Sands at Grace Bay.
Bed & Bath
Couple-friendly Studio Rooms have kitchenettes, tropical-inspired prints and views of either the gardens or the ocean. For more room, upgrade to a One-Bedroom Oceanfront Suite, which is 1,028 square feet and features a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops, a living area with striped white and seafoam-green seating, and pastel yellow walls with crown moldings. Some suites have a washer/dryer, and all have screened-in balconies or patios. Bathrooms were renovated in 2012 and feature Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.
If you get tired of beachin’ it, there are three lagoon-style pools to choose from, and the coconut grove filled with hammocks is the perfect spot for an afternoon snooze. You can work on your backhand at the tennis court, shoot some hoops at the basketball court or explore the island using one of the resort’s free bicycles. The open-air dining room overlooks Grace Bay Beach, and it serves a simple but tasty menu of dishes such as curried shrimp wrapped in a banana leaf with a side of white rice and vegetables. And don’t leave without trying the island favorite: conch fritters and conch chowder.
In the Area
Swing your clubs at the Provo Golf Club — just five minutes from the hotel, the challenging and beautifully landscaped course is the only one in Turks and Caicos (look out for flamingos in the lakes). Or hit the water with a sail/snorkel excursion with Ocean Vibes, the hotel's on-site tour operator. Hungry? Hit Da Conch Shack, which, while a bit on the touristy side, is a must for mollusk-lovers with such offerings as conch salad, conch fritters, conch chowder and more. When it’s time to relax, visit the hotel’s Spa Tropique, which offers hot stone massages, facials and full body treatments.
