Conveniently placed hotel close to museums, sights, and K Street, with comfy beds and brand-name in-room amenities
The Westin checks lots of boxes: good location, squeaky clean rooms, spacious bathrooms, workspaces aplenty, and a nice focus on wellness that extends from a menu of superfoods to providing running maps of nearby routes to morning group runs. The interiors are par for the chain hotel course, but rooms are comfy and we love their signature mattresses. While extras like parking and WiFi come at a price, service is thoughtful and you can even rent out a small workspace for meetings or just to get some work done for a couple of hours—a nice alternative to a noisy coffee shop or renting a desk in a co-working space. You can hobnob with Washington insiders over filet mignon at the brasserie, called The Caucus Room, or go more casual at Bóveda, a Latin-inspired speakeasy with killer deals on margaritas at happy hour and tempting small plates like olives and short rib tacos.
In the Area
The White House and a handful of DC’s best museums (the National Academy of Sciences, the Art Museum of the Americas) are within walking distance of the hotel, although political types will appreciate the proximity to K Street. Book a table at Ris in advance; this posh spot does seasonal American dishes like crispy fried okra with bacon and a fab tomato, feta, and watermelon salad while brunch features enticing cocktails like ginger-orange-pineapple-popsicle mimosas. Soi 38 is known for its flavorful, spicy Thai street food along with house-made sodas and draft cocktails. A 15-minute stroll to the Potomac brings you to Farmers Fishers Bakers, an eco-friendly restaurant in a colorful, 'gram-worthy “urban farmhouse” setting that emphasizes made-from-scratch regional ingredients.
