Overview

The Review

Unlike some of the larger properties on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, Carson Ridge doesn’t try to dazzle you with sprawling resort grounds. Tucked away on a quiet three acres outside a bucolic town, this little refuge is meant for secluded comfort and the tranquility of very private digs.

Arriving one Indian summer afternoon, I was greeted by a wooden deck and a porch swing warmed by sunlight streaming over the nearby foothills of the Cascades. The attention to detail in the craftsmanship is evident everywhere you turn, from the gorgeous slate tiling in the bathrooms (which have walk-in rainfall showers) to the custom-made hewn-log bed frames, topped with a sumptuous mattress cushioned so high you might need a stool to climb in. My favorite features are the toasty gas fireplace and the river rock–lined hydrotherapy tub for two.

The welcoming ambience can be enjoyed from the cushy leather chairs placed close to the flicker of the fire; those chairs are also within reach of the remote control of the large flat-screen TV. With an extensive DVD collection in the community breakfast room and a welcome basket in your room that features a bag of popcorn, it’s easy to retire for the night with some fluffy kernels and a few flicks. Or skip the tube altogether and enjoy a little friendly competition with the cards and board games thoughtfully placed in each cabin.

While it may sound like the perfect setting for a lazy vacation, visitors would be remiss if they were to stay cooped up the whole trip. Carson Ridge’s central location makes it the perfect base for exploring the gorge’s dizzying kaleidoscope of recreational activities. In spring and summer, hike to waterfalls or wildflower-decked mountaintops, raft the White Salmon River, windsurf the Columbia or just enjoy a leisurely drive punctuated by stops at family-owned wineries and fruit stands. Winter here provides the perfect environment for strapping on snowshoes for a stomp through alpine valleys; the Mount Hood Meadows and Ski Bowl resorts are an easy hour’s drive away.

No matter the season, Carson Ridge will send you off on your adventures with a full belly. Your innkeepers, Pete and Latisha, serve up a selection of hot treats — my crème brûlée French toast was delectable — complemented by fresh fruit and yogurt selections. I lucked out on my stay: It coincided with the innkeepers’ monthly community dinner, a family-style feast featuring local produce and wine and the sounds of a local classical guitarist.

Romantic Hideaway

My husband & I recently spent the weekend at Carson Luxury Cabins and it exceeded our expectations!

Myself, being in the hospitality industry, I tend to pick out any flaws immediately and there were “none”. We stayed in the Mt. Hood cabin, it was beautifully decorated, meticulously clean and very quiet.

Theresa & Richard are wonderfully warm people who know how to pamper. Our 1st
breakfast arrived with Eggs Benedict forppp my husband and Eggs Florentine for me, accompanied by fresh OJ, homemade lemon scones and fresh fruit. Theresa is a wonderful baker! She put out warm chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon and strawberry muffins with a streusel topping with our next breakfast.

We never once turned on the television, instead we sat out by the fire pit, took a luxurious bath or played games from the selection in our room.

Richard gave us 2 recommendations for restaurants and told us where to go shop for any snacks etc. Both of his suggestions, Thunder Island Brewing Co. & Backwoods Brewing Co. we’re spot on!

Being there away from everything gave
us a renewed appreciation for a more relaxed way of life and the honor system. When we checked in, Richard told us there was wine in our cabin but if we wanted something more or different and there is nobody in the office, “just take what you want and we’ll settle up later”. When have you heard that at a luxury hotel? We found the same spirit at the restaurant he referred us to “Thunder Island Brewing Co. When we left today, I left with a hug and a warm feeling. If you are planning a honeymoon, romantic getaway or just to reconnect... this is the place and Theresa & Richard will make it happen:)

Romantic Getaway

My wife and I booked the Mt. Adams room on a spontaneous last minute getaway. The cost was higher than we normally pay for such a getaway, but being from Las Vegas we understand better than most the high cost of excellent service and hospitality. Here we found both. The owners, Richard and Theresa, are warm and welcoming. Their friendly demeanor set the tone immediately upon check-in. We were assisted to our room by Richard, with a handy green wagon, which helped bring our luggage up. He was friendly and conversational, but did not doddle and allowed us our privacy as soon as he got us situated and explained how to use the amenities (jacuzzi tub, fireplace, etc). The room was gorgeous, large and authentic, wooden everything; with a stocked fridge for drinks and snacks and bath salts and scented soaps for the Jacuzzi tub and shower.
The landscape was beautiful and my wife and I immediately walked the paths through the apple orchards. There were chairs strategically placed for star-gazing, and a fire pit not far from the apple orchards. My wife and I enjoyed the fire pit with a little help from Theresa at the end of the night. The next morning Richard brought up a basket with a homemade breakfast, comprised of sausage, poached eggs, peppers, and what we believed were vegan chocolate muffins. Absolutely delicious.
We would highly recommend this destination as a getaway for couples looking to reconnect, rekindle, or just keep the romantic flames roaring. This is certainly the place to do it. The seclusion is welcoming, but there is enough town nearby if you want to go out and mingle or have dinner in a public place. It really is the perfect getaway. If we had any criticism it would be that we only spent the one night and should have done two. One night was so in-and-out we felt like we could have really maximized our stay but simply ran out of time. If the opportunity presents we will absolutely come back!

Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins is our new #1 lodging experience
Reviewed 1 month ago

We originally were scheduled to visit the Columbia River Gorge in September 2017 but Hurricane Irma forced us to stay in Florida. Theresa and Richard were very accommodating for our last minute cancelation and suggested we visit before July 2018 as the forest fires would ruin our first impressions of this great area and late Spring would be ideal. They were right. This property is ideally located on a country road, directly across from a good restaurant and convenience store, so walking for a pizza or other supplies was very convenient. We stayed in the Mt. St. Helen cabin and nothing could be done to improve these accommodations. For being a "cabin" with outdoor amenities like a porch swing and table/chairs, we were hard pressed to find a spider web or forest debris anywhere around our cabin. The linens were ideal ~ we ended up buying a set for home. The morning breakfast basket was a romantic touch and allowed us to enjoy our cabin, fireplace or porch each morning. The cloth napkins were delightfully scented. Talking to Theresa, I learned she goes the extra mile to assure her guests have a totally pleasant experience, including softly scented linens. Theresa and Richard were very attentive to our needs including dietary choices and our activity/plans for each day. Not only were the breakfast choices delicious and nutritious but they were quaintly packaged in our basket. When we described to Theresa and Richard what we hoped to do each day, they recommended certain hikes, gave us directions, described what each hike was like and how long it would take to hike. The Carson Ridge property is equipped with adirondack chairs in various common areas and a fire pit to enjoy. The property has a meandering walking path carved out of many acres ~ perfect to walk around with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The cabins are situated such that guests can have total privacy or stay visible to engage others in conversation. The grounds were impeccably kept. We travel extensively and have agreed that the Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins is our new #1 choice in lodging experiences. We highly recommend this property.

Relaxing weekend

We chose Carson ridge luxury cabins on the recommendation of a friend. His recommendation was the best I have ever been given. The cabins live up to there name they are luxurious, private clean and well maintained. The property also offers relaxing grass trails to walk and or just relax in a hammock and listen to the birds sing. Theresa and Richard are excellent hosts who are cheerful, friendly and kind. You can tell they truly love what they do as customer service is a priority for them and it shows. The breakfasts where made with the skill of excellent experienced chefs. Our food was delicious and the proportions were ideal. It was the perfect relaxing and romantic weekend this couple was looking for. We are already planning our next stay at Carson ridge luxury cabins.

Excellent in all respects

We were a party of 5 and stayed in 3 cabins for four nights. All three cabins were excellent - comfortable king bed, clean and well appointed bathroom with Jacuzzi tub. Amenities were also excellent: in-room coffee maker and coffee packs (regular and decaf), snacks and wine for purchase at very reasonable prices. The included breakfasts were all fantastic -- eggs benedict, quiche, etc. with fresh fruit and pastries, juice and coffee. The grounds are superb and are essentially a botanical garden. And the owners/hosts/chefs are very accommodating and very personable. We definitely plan to stay here when we return - hopefully next year.
