How to Get There
I agree with many others that the layout of this hotel is something of a nightmare. We were even given the wrong directions to our room by a staff member. However, once in our room we found it extremely clean and comfortable with quality furnishings. There are three pools but we preferred the adult only one on the fourth floor as there were an abundance of children during our stay.
I didn’t use the spa as I consider the pricing extortionate for what they offer.
Other than that it was a pleasant stay and would be happy to stay again at some point.
Staying at the Westgate was an amazing experience! The staff was super attentive and welcoming, especially Barbara in particular. She gave me fantastic recommendations for what to do during my stay, and she made me feel at home.
The indoor and outdoor pools are nice too!
The Westgate is lovely in many ways, in others a conundrum. First off, the complaints about the confusing hotel layout are warranted. Each room is located on a floor within a building, but the hotel confuses the situation by naming each of the buildings that roughly corresponds to the building. We get it. The hotel is built into the side of a hill and therefore things can seem wacky (the outdoor pool and tennis courts are on floor 5, for instance). Prepare to spend some time learning your way around. The first thing the front desk does after checking you in is send you to the concierge desk to get a map and instructions on the hotel layout. Speaks volumes.
I was put off by how aggressively the concierge wanted me to use the “complimentary” valet parking instead of self parking. I saw the valet getting a car parked a few spots from where I parked on my own. I know this is a resort and the bell staff is trying to make some cash, but when I want to leave, I want to go, not stand in the lobby waiting for the valet.
Something to be aware of whether you valet or self park: the ramps between floors in the parking garage are too steep so if you have a low car (like mine) you will scrape your front bumper every time you go down a level and may bottom out on the way up as well. Even following the 5mph limit in the garage won’t save you. Try to angle your way down as best as possible and put more weight in the back seat. Sheesh. So complicated.
Our room, on the 4th floor, was like an English basement, aka cave-like, becoming light enough only in the late afternoon. Avoid any room on the inside of floor four. (The other problems are that the walls are too dark and the lighting too dim in 2306A where we stayed. The owner should paint the walls a lighter color and get some uplighting. Oh yeah, the stupid fan light never turns completely off, so you have this eerie glow all night. )
We didn’t eat at any of the restaurants, so no insights there.
We did use the pools — all 3 of them — and they make up for any other shortcomings we might have suffered. So put on your swim suit, grab a good book, and go sit by the pool ... if you can find it.
My daughter and I had a bit of a mishap during our one night stay and after bringing it to the attention of management, particularly Rebecca, our issues were solved. She quickly addressed and attended to our needs, making sure we were satisfied. Thank you Rebecca! We will be back!
Rooms were very comfy and I was surprised as how quiet they were. We didn’t hear any noise, talking, TV from the rooms next to or above us, even though the resort was very packed that weekend.
Everyone from the bellhop, to the front desk, to the kind gentleman taking care of the pool were great! They were very attentive and made our stay great. We had a request that isn’t part of the stay and they made it happen so that our vacation could be amazing!
We will be back!
