A delightfully unusual Hawaiian stay at a stunning rainforest retreat on the rim of an active volcano
Mesmerizing lava fields, gorgeous waterfalls and lush rainforests are just some of what you’ll find outside your front door at The Chalet Kilauea. Which isn’t surprising, since you’ll be staying not only within a remote stretch of unspoiled rainforest reserve, but on the rim of an actual, active volcano within one of Hawaii’s beautiful national parks. Not to fear, of course: You’re perfectly safe here. Lava only flows in remote parts of Kilauea Volcano, an immense natural wonder that makes up much of the terrain of Hawaii’s Big Island.
The Chalet however, is set on a different part of this beautiful destination, an hour away from black-sand beaches with crystal-clear waters, and with magnificent terrain of its own. 12-foot prehistoric Hapu’u tree ferns accent the grounds, which include upscale, individualized rooms, a garden gazebo and a koi pond. All of these features are 4,000 feet above sea level, far removed from urban life. So, just as the volcanic activity dies down far from here at this TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence winner, it’s also quiet, peaceful respite – which is just as true to that iconic Aloha spirit.
Rooms at the hotel are spacious and individually decorated, with natural accents and floating zen flames. You'll have a king bed and a view straight into the rainforest.
