How to Get There
It seems that all of the top end resorts at Denarau have seen better days. Some might say the rooms have 'cultural charm' but for the top dollar paid guests should be able to expect better quality properties. We also had problems with our booking. We booked through a third party (a well-known travel comparison website in Australia) that provided us with only one type of plunge pool room. When we arrived we were told there are two types of plunge pool rooms at Westin and we were given a top floor room with a blacony spa - completely different to what we booked. After over an hour of negotiating with the front desk, we managed to get moved to a Beachfront room - mind you at our expense. No offer from the hotel of anything - no credit no nothing after we were mislead on the type of room we booked. The first reaction from the reception was that we had to stay in our allocated room and nothing else was available. We ere only given a new room after we searched for room availability at the same hotel on Trip Advisor and had to show this to the hotel reception to be moved the next day. Not the type of service a guest should expect from the Westin or from a hotel where rooms are costing more then $300 a night!
here is my summary for this hotel:
Location: 5 Stars
Fijian Ambiance: 5 Stars
Luxury: 4 Stars
Wow Factor: 4 Stars
Service: 5 Stars
Westin hotel is the oldest of the three hotel resorts in Denarau island and what a surprise! I love the architecture of thatched main reception building and it immediately gives you that feeling that you are on a Fijian Holiday.
My wife and I were given room 2333. room 2333 has an ocean view. Room 2333 is furnished with Fijian furniture. it has an intricately carved Vanity, a very comfortable king sized bed, a Fijian decorated vanity and a work table. the lamp shades are all in Fijian design motif and the decorations are very much native Fijian. (it even has a Fiji cannibal tongs display). And By the way.. rooms are air conditioned!
During our stay, we dined at the Zing restaurant for dinner and the Kitchen Grill for breakfast. The Zing restaurant is an Asian-Fijian Fusion restaurant. The food is okay and very reasonably priced. my favorites are the vegetable spring rolls and crispy pork. You must try these.
Breakfast at the Kitchen Grill is very good. there is a juice bar, cereals corner, fruits and fried eggs and omelet center. there are lot of bread including Fiji's own Lolo buns. When you book a room in this hotel, always book with breakfast! Come early between 6:30 and 7:30 for some light breakfast traffic or after 9:30 a.m.. Any time between these two is busy.
If you're thinking of swimming, the beach fronting the Westin is not swim accessible because of the boulders on the shore . You will have to walk over to Sheraton to get some beach swimming going. but if yo have family with you, the kids will love the swimming pools, the pools are deep enough for kids to enjoy their time in Fiji.
I enjoyed staying in this hotel mostly because my wife and I were pampered by people who are very nice and took really good care of us, the room is very comfortable, food is great, and the Fijian ambiance is present in every corner of the hotel.
Will I come back to this hotel? Absolutely!
Will I recommend Westin to my friends and family? Definitely
Will I recommend this hotel to you? a definitely value-for-money hotel.
Our family of 10 stayed at the Westin for 9 nights in April. We had a wonderful experience but the most memorable was the friendly, helpful staff . The breakfast was great ane the staff in particular Salanieta Taliga who remembered all of our names went out of their way to make our day enjoyable.
I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at this resort for the first time....however, it failed me in my expectations on the cleanliness of the bathroom. Resort is spread out with main lobby/swimming pool restaurants in the centre..so be prepared for a stroll in the morning to get to breakfast. We had an oceanfront room with two double beds. Check in took a bit longer then i hoped it would take. Porter assisted us to the room..we had to climb up stairs to get to our beachfront ocean view room. Once in the view that greeted us was amazing. Upon inspection of the room however, we found that there were no slippers and only one gown instead of the two that was supposed to be there. Bathroom could of been cleaner (big let down here for the price one has to pay for the room). Beddings are super comfy. Buffet breakfast was amazing and it was wonderful to be able to view the ocean while enjoying ones breakfast. Car park is located away from the main lobby but porters were happy to bring our vehicle up the lobby for us..VINAKA for that! All in all we enjoyed our stay here at this wonderful resort. VINAKA VAKALEVU!
So we were told to go here for breakfast from our own resort nearby and we did...........TWICE!!
A lovely walk or stroll around the beachfront of a few other Fijian resorts on Denarau and you finally arrive at the Westin. Get in early...........like 8am was the advice from others so we did so!!
And we scored a pool side table with exquisite views of the Westin's pools, leading out to the ocean beyond.
Champagne on arrival for breakfast..............don't mind if I do!!!
And food choices to DIE FOR..........including eggs made on the spot in most any style and filling that takes your fancy!! Hot or cold dishes, healthy or not so healthy. Juices made with fresg fruits etc etc squeezed on the spot............amazing!!!
Honestly, we loved it all SO much that we went back again a few days later!!
