How to Get There
The Lodge is a lovely place to stay & we visited many times in the past. We stayed on a package which included breakfast. Upon arrival, we asked if the breakfast included gratuity & was told it did not so we left a tip each day. When I looked at the bill at home, there was a service charge. I called & was told the charge was for the gratuity. Explained we gave a tip & asked that bill be corrected. I was told someone would investigate, but after numerous phone calls, no one called. Update: I did hear from the Lodge and my bill was credited & they apologized for the inconvenience and the delay in returning my call.
Outstanding service in a top level hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and all around excellent. This is the FIRST place anyone should research for lodging in the area.
The lodge puts you handily at Colonial Williamsburg. The staff were quick to help and advise. We had a booking problem in that I had reserved a king room, expecting to get a cozy room decorated with colonial reproduction furniture for a romantic weekend for two. We ended up with a large room with two queens and a pullout that was anything but romantic. That being said, I recommend the Williamsburg Lodge. Just be careful to not get you hopes up for a particular room type.
It seems that any question or request you might have ends with a, please stop by the front desk and once you go to the front desk the answer you received over the phone is different from the one you get at the desk. Customer service is seriously lacking compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at. There is also no room service and the restaurant caters to parties and not the guests along with a 2-3hr wait to sit in the bar area to eat bar food. I’m dropping the Marriott brand all together, I was transplanted from the SPG group and have been disappointed in all of the Marriott properties we have stayed at so far in one way or another.
We called our usual phone number for the Griffin Hotel & somehow we were connected with the Marriott Corp. I specified that we wanted to make reservations with the Griffin Hotel, but we were dealing with someone that was not familiar with Williamsburg area. To our surprise when we tried to check in at Griffin Hotel, we eventually found out we were booked at Williamsburg Lodge. The lady that took our reservations, did not inform us that we were staying somewhere other than Griffin Hotel. The lodge was clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom was small, no counter space & parking not great. The staff was polite. We were glad the room was clean & comfortable, but we were very disappointed that we were not where we specified since this was a special occasion.
