How to Get There
This is a very nice hotel. The rooms are small, but very clean. The staff are poorly trained and make it obvious that you are not welcome. The police were at the hotel upon my arrival as a result of an irate guest who had been overcharged. I received my hotel invoice by email after I returned home and realized that I had been overcharged as well. I had to call twice to get the invoice corrected. The staff at the Leaf and Barley are very unfriendly and incompetent. Better management would make this a nice hotel.
Where to begin?
As I write this, loud live music is coming from the courtyard, which my room overlooks. The front desk told me it ends at 10 pm. When checking in, with my children, this was not mentioned. It is literally impossible to sleep. The front desk offered an apology. That doesn't help my tired children. It is so loud that my window might as well be open.
When we checked in yesterday at noon, we requested a cot. (Also requested on the reservation.) When we returned from a long, very hot day of sight seeing and then dinner, no cot had been brought up. I called down and it rang so long, I hung up. I called again and was put on hold for 5 minutes and ultimately hung up. After 9 pm, the cot arrived.
I've never stayed at a hotel where the phone rang so long that I gave up. And I've never been put on hold for so long.
The room itself is very nice and clean. But my overall experience has been poor. I expected much better from this hotel and will definitely not recommend it.
My family and I have stayed at this hotel several times and very much enjoy it. It has a great location close to the campus of Historic Williamsburg and the rooms and bathrooms have been renovated and and very nice indeed. But it is the customer service that sets this place apart. I had a snafu with housekeeping that hadn’t been resolved after several hours. But after talking with Nicole at the front desk she not only set the housekeeping issue straight herself but made up for the inconvenience on top of it. Nicole is an exemplary example customer service done right. Snafus happen- it’s part of running a business but what matters is how you handle it; and Nicole was dedicated to make it right. I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome. I will definitely be staying here again.
We visited Williamsburg with our kids and our 2 year old granddaughter. This hotel was a gem. While we were there, we were able to take advantage of the free shuttle service to take us everywhere for restaurants and shopping. The drivers and the welcome staff were personable and friendly. The rooms were large and the crib was clean!!! Breakfast was great!! We were able to come at different times and still get to see each other. I would stay here again and again.
Very comfortable Inn. Disappointed that the staff was unable to give us the room we had requested, but the concierge was more than sufficient to make up the difference.
Jill, our concierge, was great in every way. We totally appreciated everything she told us to do. She was knowledgeable, friendly and anxious to be sure we saw certain attractions, and was totally spot on.
