How to Get There
I returned to this hotel for my annual visit to Roanoke and was pleased to find that it is as beautiful and comfortable as ever. My room was one of the simpler ones, no refrigerator or bathrobe, but the elegant lobby, as well as the fine pub and wonderful restaurant, made the trip feel luxurious even so. The hotel shuttle met me at the airport and a very personable driver made the quick trip to the entrance of the hotel very pleasant. The staff at the reception desk makes check-in and -out easy and efficient, and despite the hot weather the hotel's public areas as well as rooms were very comfortable. I was on the fourth floor and also appreciated the efficiency of the hotel elevators. The business center made life easy, too; a computer is available for printing out boarding passes, etc., for all of us who don't like using a cell phone for such things.
I highly recommend reserving a table for dinner in the Regency Restaurant, where the service will make you feel very well cared for as you enjoy local foods perfectly prepared. The trout is outstanding, as is the Caesar salad. If you can manage to eat more, the coconut dacquoise is worth the effort! It is also worth mentioning the wine list, which has some very good wines at reasonable prices.
The only caveat I'd offer is it is wise to ask for the turn-down service offered by the hotel on a daily basis. This is not the first time that I found my request for this service was honored only on the first night. Best to call every day, I think, at least until the hotel finds a way to improve its record-keeping in this department.
The entire stay was great. Room was huge King suite with fluffy robes.
Easy check in/out. Breakfast buffet had made to order omelets.
You can take the glass walkway over street to local shops and eateries.
I attended a conference at the hotel, so decided to stay there. This is a beautiful historic hotel with excellent dining and conference facilities. It is impeccably maintained. The staff is very attentive. This is one of the nicest hotels I've been in recently.
