How to Get There
Expensive hotel and room. For the price I would expect certain amenities, such as nice lobby decor, clean rooms, exercise and pool, etc. But several things happened that were disappointing. The associated restaurant took over 30 minutes to serve our lunch. The checkin desk gave me a room key for the 11th floor which did not work. The room I had, 1122, was noisy because of a service elevator that kept going up and down all day which we could hear in the walls. I was first told it would be turned off about 8:30 PM. At 10:20 PM it was still going, despite 3 requests to stop it. A complimentary shuttle service was offered to take us to our restuarant. After waiting 30 minutes after the time it was due, we took an uber. The room itself did not offer convenient plugs in the room for electronics, etc. I had to use an extension cord which I fortunately had. There are many hotels nearby with the same rates and amenities. I would recommend trying one of those for your visit to Richmond.
Overall a very nice experience. Staff were all very friendly and most helpful, especially the bellmen. Room was clean and quiet. Hot water was out for a day, which posed a problem for my wife--I had a 7:30 AM meeting so no problem for me. Food for breaks and socials was very fresh and tasty. The banquet staff replenished the food in a timely manner.
I spent one night at the Richmond Omni to attend a wedding. I checked in at 3 pm and was told there were no “club kings” available, even though that was what I had reserved. When I inquired why I was told “well, we have 6 weddings this weekend”...very unapologetically, as if that was an explanation for getting ‘bumped’. I also had to search out the valet parking attendant.
You’d think with all those weddings, they would have been fully staffed, but it seemed not.
My actual room was good sized, and a king. Fine, but I already had a bad taste for the overall vibe of the hotel. Both times we tried to get drinks in the bar, the service was slow and disorganized. The one bright spot of service was at breakfast the next morning. All in all, I’d go elsewhere next time.
