How to Get There
I was only in town for one night and the Boar's head was full, so I booked a room at the Oakhurst. it is similarly priced as compared to the Boar's Head, but has fewer amenities. The room was cute and nicely furnished. There is no elevator. The staff was really nice and accommodating.
The problem was that the walls are unbelievably thin. You can hear EVERYTHING that happens at this hotel. A family brought their small child with them on vacation and she did not go to bed until after 11, which is perfectly fine, but I could hear her screaming and talking the entire time as well as her mother scolding her. She woke me up early in the morning because I could hear her in her room and then she walked into the common "library" area and it was as if she was standing right next to me. I could hear a staff member as they were cleaning the third room on the floor. I made a phone call home and now I realize that everyone else staying at this hotel could likely hear my conversation perfectly. You can also hear cars and people on the street very clearly. The hotel has posted "quiet hours" from 10 pm to 8 am and now I understand why, but just be warned that even a regular conversation between adults can be heard from EVERY ROOM IN THE BUILDING. Also, most people would consider a conversation to be a normal quiet-hours activity, so be prepared to hear what everyone else is doing during quiet hours even if they are trying to be respectful because there really is no privacy.
While the inn is quaint, I would not recommend staying here if (1) you want any privacy whatsoever or (2) you want to sleep in past 730, because if anyone else is up, you will be too.
I was only in C-Ville for the night, but had the good fortune of landing at the Oakhurst. Quiet, well appointed rooms and helpful staff, not to mention the location all make this a top choice. And because I must have 200 words to make this review official, I'll mention that I will come back.
My wife and I stayed at the Oakhurst Inn for our anniversary for a couple nights. We loved the modern room and bathroom. The property also offers a stellar cafe for lunch and great communal, library-like spaces for reading or (unfortunately for us) getting some work done.
The staff was incredibly friendly. It seems like they really care about the place.
Overall, the Oakhurst Inn is small enough to be quaint, but big enough to know what they're doing and do it right. Would recommend to any of my friends.
I stayed one night at the Oakhurst Inn during my son's orientation at UVA. Upon arrival I was offered a Pellegrino or hard cider to imbibe during the check-in procedure. Check-in was effortless and the valet parked my vehicle while I was shown to my room. The room was comfortable, modern and inviting. I am a stickler for cleanliness and found both the room and bathroom spotless. That evening when I arrived back to my room I was greeted with fresh baked ginger cookies (still warm) and a bottle of cold water.
The location can't be beat as it is a very easy walk to campus and the coffee shop that the Inn also owns. I own several properties in C'ville and have a fourth year at UVA so have been down many times to stay in C'ville. The Oakhurst was on my bucket list of places to stay. I think that this Inn has become my new home away from home and look forward to many future stays!
Everything about my stay was simply delightful. The staff was amazing, my room was charming, and the extra touches made me feel so pampered. The Inn is conveniently located with easy access around town and the valet service was incredible. The Cafe was wonderful. I couldn’t wait till morning to get that delicious cup of coffee. Visiting Charlottesville and staying at the Oakhurst Inn will become an annual trip for me! It’s truly been a memorable experience.
