How to Get There
This is a small boutique hotel with lovely service. The room was very small with zero counter space in the bathroom. The room had one bed plus a small desk and desk chair. If you prefer somewhere else to sit, perhaps you need to get a suite. If you want a small hotel close to the UVa campus this is the place for you. If you prefer amenities of a large hotel (fitness center, coffee available before 8 a.m., etc.) I recommend staying somewhere else.
My wife and I can't say enough about Oakhurst Inn and its staff. Free valet parking upon check-in was very helpful. The receptionist, Susan, was so accommodating and just so pleasant to interact with and walked us up to our room just as if we were staying at her house. This is the feel of Oakhurst. My wife and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary and when we came home after dinner we found a bottle of champagne on ice with two flutes in our room with a thoughtful, hand-written card. While this was above and beyond, the standard turn-down service included two yummy ginger cookies and a glass, Oakhurst-logoed water bottle.
We stayed in the King Premier which is one of the most beautiful and relaxing situations we have had when staying in "hotels." The bathroom is very large, including a gorgeous, modern tub and the entire room, including the bathroom, is surrounded by large windows that flood the room with natural light. Even the soaps and lotions were unlike what we've had at other places--they smelled amazing.
The pool is brand new and perhaps filled with salt-water? You do not smell chlorine during or after swimming. The entire building that the pool is behind is brand-new (remodeled and refurbished) and no corner was overlooked. Places like this make you wonder why you ever stay at a normal hotel.
You have to expect some low levels of neighboring sounds, or from the pool when you are in your room, but this is more the quaint characteristics of staying in a nice, older home, rather than suggesting anything cheap. Oakhurst is top-notch and the staff happily attended to our every need. Here's the thing: they all like to work there. It's obvious. To me, that makes an experience first class. This is even true of the hostess/waitress at the Cafe. Naomi was very helpful and just happy to be there and made sure we got what we were looking for, even giving me samples of their coffee before I picked one (I didn't even ask).
I really hope we can come back someday and stay here again. They are worth the price and, that being said, are not that expensive compared to what you would get at any other hotel. Why go anywhere else?
An exceptionally priced boutique hotel right next to UVA and easy on to major streets and highways. Very large room furnished with a modern feel. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. There is a nice bar that also serves snacks which you can eat inside or on the pool patio deck. The pool is small but does the trick on a hot day. I highly recommend this Inn.
