How to Get There
We arrived after midnight and appreciate the gracious hospitality and welcoming environment offered by Stephanie W. Thank you Stephanie W.! We appreciated the shuttle to Old Town the next day. The hotel room was clean and in good order.
It was a really nice property. Although we arrived after Midnight for check-in. The staff was still very warm, friendly, alert and knowledgeable. It was very special experience knowing such an upscale property was in fact pet-friendly.
I just completed a weekend stay at the Westin and had a pleasant experience. The staff were courteous and helpful and recognized my Titanium Elite status at check-in, leading to an upgrade to a premium room. The hotel is located in a charming neighborhood and convenient to the King Street metro as well as downtown Old Town. There are also a number of cafes, grocery stores, and restaurants nearby. Highly recommended!
A short walk to old town and the metro, the Westin is a great option to base your exploration. Check in took a minute and very friendly. We were upgraded which is always nice. The room was huge, spotless and well appointed. The bath had a rain shower and the towels were very soft. The bed was very comfortable with a great comforter. They have a shuttle that will take you up to two miles, easily covering old town and the metro.
Our daughter's volleyball team was playing at the Capitol Hill Classic volleyball tournament in Washington D.C. this past weekend and the tournament assigned our team to this particular hotel. We would not have chosen to stay here if we had been given a choice.
First off, there was no way we were going to pay the daily valet parking fee offered by the hotel ($34/day). Instead, we self-parked at the public garage on Elizabeth Ln. for $10/night. The garage is approx. 250 feet from the hotel entrance.
Secondly, I was disappointed to learn that in this day and age the hotel charges $9.95/day for wi-fi unless you're a Starwood Preferred Guest member. Needless to say, I signed up (for free) so that we could avoid paying the $9.95/day fee.
Another point I'd like to bring up is our check-out yesterday morning. Our (pre-tax) room rate was supposed to be $148/night. When I went to check out, the desk clerk gave me a grand total of $558. I asked how could that be if the room rate was $148/night. She said with taxes the room was $170-something per night. So then I mentioned that $170 times 3 nights = $510...so why $558? ONLY THEN did she tell me that she was going to remove the daily internet fee...which my wife confirmed upon check-in would be FREE for us as a Starwood member. Clearly I would have been overcharged $46 had I not spoken up!
So, fellow travelers: If you stay here and are entitled to free wi-fi (and let's face it, these days EVERY hotel should offer free wi-fi and not charge!), you may want to confirm that it's not being charged BEFORE you pay.
The room itself was nice and I used the treadmill in the 3rd floor fitness center for 2 of the days we stayed here. Within walking distance are a Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Panera and Quiznos (Quiznos is closed on weekends, though). You can walk about a quarter mile to Eisenhower Ave to find a 7-Eleven and a small-but-good pizza place (Paisano's).
Overall, though the room was nice, we would not stay here again due to the parking fee and our extremely frustrating experience with the potential internet overcharge upon checking out.
