Nice little cabin away from crowds
Reviewed 3 days ago

With my niece and a friend, we stayed at El Mar y Rio for three nights. We were not looking for the loud partying gangs and this was teh place to be. We had great boat rides, arranged when we got there, for snorkeling and for diving. We were able to combine snorkelers and divers in a single trip with a couple of destinations, perfect for us. Not expensive and only about 6 passengers on the boat. The food at the resort for dinner was highly variable. I did not like the curried chicken (seemed like chicken with a bunch of curry powder thrown one) but my niece adored the seafood stew. Service was fairly good. People at the dive shop were welcoming and accommodating. This was Nov 12-14.

Best Resort Ever!

One of the best vacations ever!
Best staff! special thanks to Clarine, Thet for being very accomodating, felt like i was in a 5 star resort! Thanks to kuya in the Bar, forgot his name but he was really nice!!! thank you kuya Ramil for being our snorkelling guide!! Thank you to all the super friendly waiters. The boat drivers are also nice!! they have staff welcoming you when you arrive, they are singing. welcome drinks will be offered and a cold towel, and they also give out snacks for free... they also sing for you while having dinner and will also sing for you when you are about to leave the resort! Super effort!! ❤️ And also shout out to the chef who makes all the dishes!! food is very presentable , deliciously made and one order is always good for 2 people! I love their breakfast buffet! super enjoyed all the activities they offer specially the snorkelling! Enjoyed snorkelling more in the resort than in the island tours we booked outside the resort! i wish we could have booked the island tours with El Rio but we needed to have joiners from the guests in the resort, unfortunately they dont have any other bookings besides us if ever so it will be like around 8k each...(2 pax). They have gaming, videoke, library, TV rooms and spa. They offer free use of snorkelling gear, kayak boats and etc. You will not run out of things to do in the resort. The set up is very relaxing, you will feel like as if you are in an exclusive island. i hope to come back soon❤️❤️ Thank you el rio.

Consistent and genuine service

Stayed here last September 21-23 with my sister. The resort’s room and amenities are well-maintained and comfortable. I love the food - value for money and super yummy. Among the things that El Rio Mar offer, I was captured by their personalized and genuine service. They know each and every guest, and their preferences. They will check up on you and do small talk without being intrusive. I hope that they sustain their quality of service, the unity of the team, and to continuously improve their amenities. Thanks to Clarene, Maria, Darren and everyone in the resort! I will definitely come back.

It was nice - do it for the Dugong
Reviewed 2 months ago

We spent 10 days in the Philippines and spent half of that at El Rio Y Mar.

The welcome was great, the resort orientation sweet and detailed and the room was good. The view was good, air conditioner amazing and it was clean and big.

We specifically went diving and was super excited to dive with Dugong Dive Centre. They were organised, clean and the dive masters and boat crews very friendly. But...

- the dive centre manager was super rude, short and generally a miserable looking woman. Every time you have to greet her first, she never smiled and every time you ask her a question she would be dismissive and made you feel unwelcome. I have been a dive centre manager and know exactly WHAT NOT TO BE LIKE. I would never like to meet her again.
- Our dive master’s English could have been a little better and I struggled to get diving information and explanations of itineraries from him. He was however quite pushy trying us to dive more!
- The days are super long and not very well advertised/explained. The dugong dive day and Apo reef takes one to be on a boat for 10-12 hours. The 4500/3500 a day boat fee that “can include 3 dives” DOES NOT INCLUDE the dives. We weren’t aware that the bad grammar would have implications and ended up with an astronomical bill. When pointing this out to other dive centre staff they were incredibly rude, marched me over to the signage and tried to justify bad grammar to me like I’m an idiot. Left a VERY bad taste in our mouths upon leaving.

The dugong dive was one of the best experiences of my life and the hotel and boat staff (although a bit clueless sometimes) were always friendly and helpful. I would return to this resort but would approach a few things differently.
