How to Get There
Nothing special here, but the usual nice property and friendly staff found at most full Marriotts. The building is a little dated, but they've done a good job of modernizing the interior. The restaurant is not good; there are many other choices in walking distance, so go out for dinner. The concierge lounge is also not much, though they do offer a small buffet in the evening. Higher floors are the best choice for reducing street noise.
This is a very nice Marriott property ideally situated in the heart of Downtown Victoria and our room and general experience was fine. Largely for that reason this was our latest of several stays here at the Marriott (third or fourth visit?) whilst visiting Vancouver Island from UK on holiday. We also stayed at several other hotels during this trip that we have previously used on visits to the Island over recent years.
On checking out Clayton enquired as to how our stay was. We replied that the room and overall experience had been fine but this hotel had been the only one on our trip not to greet us as 'returning guests' in any way. In actual fact...We loaded our own cases from the car to luggage cart out front.....the Marriott Convoy desk was unmanned so we stood in line.....the Welcome on the TV in room had the previous guests name on (a tiny point admittedly).
Our only reason for posting this review now was Clayton's display of palpable indifference when we raised this with him. We pointed out other hotels had extended a 'returning guest welcome' by way of....a greeting at check in, a hand written welcome note from the GM, a bottle of wine, a fruit tray, bottles of water and snacks, free breakfast vouchers etc. We seek nothing for nothing but the gestures were nice and made you feel appreciated and welcomed. Clayton visibly could not have cared less and his sneering indifference was most unpleasant. We pointed out that Sean (the Doorman) had in fact remembered and personally welcomed us to which he very sarcastically replied 'Oh well at least someone remembered you' .
We will certainly remember Clayton when making our future plans to stay in Victoria.
I like Marriott properties. This one I use for as the location is good for meetings near by. The hotel staff, and restaurant staff are excellent, friendly caring individual BUT if you drive a car they have a terrible management policy on their parking lot. You cannot prepay or reserve parking when you reserve a room. Parking in downtown Victoria is very very hard to find so their first in first out policy can result in your having to search all over to park your car somewhere with all the security risks and total inconvenience if you happen to be too late in the afternoon for any space. Management has been approached several times asking why if you are willing to pay for parking in advance when you have a confirmed room reservation why they treat you so poorly- unfortunately they do not care - a bad policy that diminishes an otherwise excellent experince - they should revisit this approach
Spent the night at this property on a girlfriends weekend trip to Victoria and Vancouver. This property is in a perfect location for walking around downtown Victoria. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful especially the front desk staff and in particular the concierge who assisted us with flight arrangements for a seaplane.
The rooms were nicely furnished and the concierge lounge was great. It is decorated so lovely and had a nice selection of food and was very clean and welcoming.
Would absolutely recommend this hotel and would plan to stay here on my next trip.
Stayed here because Conference centre hotel was sold out - was a blessing because cost was 1/3 cheaper and there is a shortcut from the front entrance that makes the Centre just a 1 min walk away.
Rooms were nice, big fridge and good sized washroom.
Loved the multi-charging device by the bed. WiFi was good.
TV had Netflix sign-in and a cool Bluetooth audio connection for music.
Lobby restaurant is a good size and sophisticated, I had a really impressive meal my first night in. And the patio is a good size too.
Lots of dining nearby, 5 min walk from the water. 7 eleven and Rexall around the corner.
Cab from the airport is expensive - there is a shuttle that can drop you here for 1/3 the price.
