How to Get There
We visited this hotel as it was very close to the Verona town centre, approx 20mins walk and it was a gorgeous hotel with fabulous views.
Breakfast was good with hot and cold choices as well as things for vegans/vegetarians.
Plenty of parking as well.
This place is stunning. From the moment one approaches the grand property to the views from all sides, there is no doubt this could be a special place to stay - probably more so in Summer for a romantic break (we went off-season in October).
However, it felt a bit deserted to us, and our tiny, slightly dated-feeling twin room wasn't particularly special, and definitely not of a normal 5* standard. The main disappointment though was breakfast, which was more Premier Inn than Premier Experience (actually, that's not fair to Premier Inns - at least they offer table service and their food arrives cooked and to spec!). We had to chase down the waiter, serve our own coffee, send back raw eggs and find our own cutlery to serve cereals and other things that looked like they'd been put out every day for months. There were flies all over the food and, despite the fact we'd paid for breakfast to be included, we only tried it once because it was so disappointing we didn't want to bother again.
The walk to town is *not* the 10 minutes we were told it was, and it's a very steep hill (feels more so on the way back up, I can assure you!), so if you're not driving or haven't pre-booked taxis, this hotel is not exactly a relaxing place to find your way back to after a night out in the wonderful city of Verona.
I imagine that in Summer this is a romantic, fabulous place to stay and spend time enjoying an Aperol Spritz while watching the sun set over Verona. When the sun's not shining though, after the initial enjoyment of such an impressive view and site, the novelty wore off fairly quickly for us.
Fantastic small private hotel.
Great rooms, breakfast and pool. We really enjoyed.
About 20mins walk from the town. Easy walking down hill. A little longer coming back
Service really good and personal.
When you arrive it is a really impresssive site, on top of the hill overlooking Verona. The Relais is really beautiful with a magnificient garden and a lovely pool. The rooms are traditional but very nice and the whole scenery is one of luxury and peace. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The hotel does not have a restaurant but the lunch and small dishes they serve are of a good quality. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the old centre of Verona, however the walk back is a steep climb. You can however also go by car and park free nearby the centre. Verona is a compact very nice city and we enjoyed it a lot.
Wheb we visit Verona in the future we will be more than happy to come back to Fra Lorenzo. Thank you very much for a lovely stay!
Stayed 3 nights on a city break. This hotel is a very peaceful place due to its location and limited number of rooms. The whole place is spotless, tastefully furnished, and very comfortable. Swam in the pool each afternoon surrounded by the olive trees. The breakfast buffet was fresh and plentiful and to have an omelette cooked to order was a real treat.
The walk down is easy....15 minutes to the old town but quite steep to walk back up....but it keeps you fit! Taxi is an alternative way back. All the staff were very attentive and helpful - the owner booked our opera tickets for us and picked good seats....shame about the thunderstorm!
