There are few cities on the planet more swoon-worthy than Verona, the ravishing setting for Shakespeare’s tragedy about star-crossed teenage lovers Romeo and Juliet. A UNESCO-listed gem that claims to have more Roman ruins than anywhere else in Italy other than Rome, it’s forever hailed as one of the most likely places for people to fall in love.
So for those who want to up the ante on the romance front, this modish four-star bolthole on the city’s outskirts is a cool pick. Days can be spent blissing out in the wonderful spa, working out in the fitness room, and venturing into the fair city to leave soppy notes in the courtyard at Casa di Giulietta beneath the very spot where Romeo declared his love. And obviously ignoring the fact that the balcony was added in the 20th century and the whole story was, of course, fiction.
The bedrooms tick all the boxes too with carpeted or hardwood flooring, soothing hues, and lots of contemporary Italian design flourishes. There’s also an elegant restaurant for delectable Italian gourmet cuisine, a poolside eatery that opens during the warmer months, and a funky deli bar that’s the perfect spot to sink a few pre- and post-dinner cocktails.

How to Get There
A wonderful 11 nights spent at this hotel and we couldn't fault it.
The staff were more than helpful, the room was clean and beds were comfortable. The the breakfasts - a very good selection to choose from.
We visited the Wellness Centre on the only day it rained, as most days the temperatures were up in the high 30's.
Make use of the hotel's free shuttle bus, but try and plan when you will, need it as it does get booked up fairly quickly.
There is a bus stop a few minutes away where the 160 and (I think) the 24 go into Verona station for just 2€. The time tables are displayed at the bus stop. We photographed the timetables so we could plan our journeys.
If ever we stay in Verona again, we will definitely be back at the Hotel Saccardi & Spa.
Arriving at the Hotel Saccardi & Spa after being picked at Verona airport up by their very efficient complimentary shuttle bus, my friend and I’s heart sank a wee bit as the exterior looked like a 1970’s UK concrete council building! But our fears were unfounded as the interior was lovely... and the hotel’s resident cats were there just at the front entrance to greet us too... beautiful very clean & well behaved they were too!
As we were too early to check into our room, the friendly reception staff booked us on the next shuttle bus (with a map of the city) into Verona. Hotel is around 15 minutes from the city so the comp shuttle bus is a real bonus and we got a taxi backbone evening which was only around 18 euros..
Checking in on our return, we were pleasantly surprised by our room... not a bad size and decor nice (mural of Verona on one wall) but bathroom could do with an update and no real view as hotel is near the airport but we were very happy with it overall. A short walk into the village of SommaCampagna reveals lots of wee cafe bars and a few lovely restaurants. Be sure to check out the Restaurant Dal Corso...
Special mention must go to Marco in the hotel restaurant who, according to my coffee living pal, made the best coffee .. and Maria in the hotels very modern spa... fabulous massage from her in fabulous surroundings... great value for money too and not ridiculously overpriced treatments as we’ve found in other hotels.
As well as the gorgeous spa, another big bonus is the hotels outdoor pool & gardens... brilliant if the weather is nice enough to use it.
All in all, I’d highly recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Verona or even Lake Garda (10/15 minutes away by train) or even Venice (1hr 10 by train)... we did both and had a fabulous time! If you do stay here, remember to give the cats a cuddle! 😜😺
We were sceptical on arrival as the hotel looked like a concrete nightmare from the outside however never judge a book by it's cover!! It's only a three minute drive from the station and the free shuttle service to and from the airport and in and out of Verona was most welcome. The room was pleasantly modern and the breakfast was totally adequate. A special thanks to the lovely guy who serves the coffee in the dining room. Mine was put on the table on the second day I was there before I even ordered it. Now that's service :-) The hotel reception staff were always very friendly and helpful whenever we approached them.
There is a bar to have a drink in the evening however it wasn't well used. There was not much ambience - perhaps if the lights were dimmed slightly to make it more welcoming to guests.
I can't leave this review without mentioning the beautiful Spa in the hotel. It looks brand spanking new however it is actually four years old. It is immaculate. Guests have free use of the pool, Sauna, Steam Room and relaxation area.
All in all an excellent three nights at this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends who wish to travel to Verona.
Lovely hotel with free spa to use! The spa and pools were absolutely amazing, rooms were a bit dated but not an issue. The location is further out of Verona town centre, but the hotel offers free shuttles into the centre every few hours which is absolutely amazing! Staff are very friendly and couldn’t do more for us!
This property is close enough to the Verona airport (free shuttle on call), at the same time, the staff is friendly enough as if you are staying upcountry.
The rooms are decent for the off-season price, towels fresh, good Italian breakfast and great wine selection..
Recommended if you are a business traveller or a family!!
