Nice little hotel
Reviewed 3 days ago

My spouse and I stayed 4 nights at the Escalus in March 2019. We do tend to pick branded luxury hotels on our holidays, due to the fact that standards would be more consistent and international. However in Verona, we quickly realised there weren't any of the usual luxury hotels to be found. Quick research on the internet, and we settled on the Escalus. We were not disappointed with our decision.

Driving in from Venice, using the directions given to us beforehand by the hotel, it was relatively easy to find the little street that the hotel is on, right where the arena is. The street is narrow but we were able to easily manoeuvre our car through to park at the hotel's temporary parking lot. Nico assisted us with our bags, and also with our checking in. Our room was just a couple of minutes from being ready, so we waited at the small lobby, before we were shown to our suite. We were given a folder with all the information we would need, what to see and do in Verona all included, as well as a list of recommended restaurants. Very handy and a thoughtful touch.

This little hotel is made up of all suites, complete with a fully stocked kitchenette, generous storage space, large flat screen TV, comfy seating area, and large king size bed. There were 3 sizes to choose from, we had chosen the medium sized suite. Generous tea and coffee facilities. Toilet was very clean and very large. Design element was evident in the tastefully decorated suite, although it was showing some signs of wear and tear. The hair dryer in our room could do with a replacement! There was no air conditioning in the room, but a quick call down to the front desk and Valentina very quickly had that turned on for us. Our room faced the main shopping street, but we didn't find it to be noisy. There were shutters attached to the window, so that does make the room a little dark in the day, but that didn't bother us either. There was no bottled water provided, but several supermarkets are nearby and we were able to stock up on whatever we needed during our stay.

Breakfast is served to the room very punctually every morning, choices are very good, and we were told we could select as much or as little as we wanted. It was nice to dine on hot scrambled eggs and bacon, freshly squeezed juice, warm bread with a plate of cold cuts and cheese in your bathrobe every morning!

There's no turn down service, but housekeeping standards are high, and our room was cleaned promptly every morning. Toiletries given are generous and well thought out.

We decided to self park our car at Cittadelle, which is a 5 -7 minute walk from the hotel, given we were driving in and out of Verona to visit some of the nearby wineries. Otherwise, valet parking is available at 35 euros a day, but the car is parked some distance away, we didn't want to have to wait for our car, especially since we intended to drive in and out. Parking at Cittadelle is comparatively cheaper, maximum charge is for 8 hours, and this would work out to be 21 euros for overnight parking.

Locationwise, I don't think it can get any more central than this. Right down the street is the arena, and the entire shopping area. Restaurants are nearby, 5-10 minute walk away, and from the hotel, everywhere is walkable.

Nico and Valentina are the best, made restaurant recommendations and dinner arrangements. Check out was equally fuss free.

This is not a big luxury hotel, there are very few facilities, but at this price point, it truly exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed our stay here very much!

This was an ideal place for us as it's right in the centre of Verona.
Comfortable to sit in, fantastic shower/bathroom, comfortable bed and very accommodating at checkout.
We were there for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and there was a celebratory bottle of Prsecco waiting for us - a nice, unexpected touch

Escalus should be your first and only choice for accommodation in Verona. Located in the very heart of the city
everything is just a stone’s throw from your suite door.
Our suite was spacious and comfortable, all possible room amenities available and of top standard and quality.
The suite was spotlessly clean and bed, extremely comfortable.
The warm welcome and hospitality granted by the staff was lovely and well appreciated, along with good recommendations for our visit in Verona.
A peaceful getaway after a few days of mayhem and bustling crowds in Venice.
Highly recommended !

Great Accommodation.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights and could not fault the experience. The suites are far bigger than normal hotel accommodation, with a kitchenette, living room, bedroom and bathroom - all clean, modern and in good condition. You choose your own breakfast selection each day and it's delivered to your suite at an appointed time. The breakfast choice and quantity was huge. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location of the suites could not be better - right in the centre of the old town and no more than a few hundred yards from everything you need to see. Go there!
